All you need to make this deliciously healthy bread is almond flour, eggs, egg white protein powder, salt, baking soda, and cream of tartar.
Recipe for Low Carb Bread with Almond Flour and Egg White Protein Powder
I use egg white protein powder in this recipe because it makes this bread incredibly fluffy and helps it to rise.

How To Bake Low Carb Keto Bread
When you bake this bread, be sure to place the pan on a baking sheet.
I’ve made this bread several dozen times and it hasn’t ever overflowed from the loaf pan.
However, it’s a very tall loaf and if your oven temperature is a little off either way it may cause your loaf to expand and overflow.
How To Store Keto Bread
To store this low carb Keto Bread with Almond Flour, let cool overnight, then wrap in a paper towel and place it in a ziploc bag.
It will keep refrigerated for one week when stored this way.
I haven’t tried freezing this healthy bread so not sure how long it would keep in the freezer.

Hello Elana,
I have been using this site for 3 years. Thank you for all the good information and recipes. God bless you always.
I want to know if I can make this recipe with any protein powder. I only have bone broth protein powder. Thank you.
Elana says
Elizabeth, it’s so nice to see you here and thanks for your comment! I haven’t tried making this bread with other protein powders so not sure if that would work :-)
William Whitcomb says
Thanks for the great (and simple) recipe. Mine came out even fluffier than yours and topped it with sesame seeds. Had my first toasted ham and cheese sandwich in two years. It was heaven, thanks!
Elana says
William, thanks for your comment! This is one of our favorite breads too :-)
Elizabeth says
Hi…is the flour you use non-GMO? I looked at the label and do not see this. If not, can you make a suggestion for a good alternative? Thanks!
Elana says
Elizabeth, thanks for your comment! Yes, this flour is non-GMO. For more information check out the product page for ingredient.
Leslie says
Do you think there will be any adjustments to this recipe if I’m living in Houston TX. We are about as close to sea level as you can get! If you are at over 5000, I’m wondering if I’ll run into problems!
Thanks!
Leslie
Elana says
Leslie, I haven’t made this particular bread recipe at sea level but have tried many of my others and they did not need any adjustments :-)
Mary says
I live very close to sea level also, and my bread did not turn out well. The first time I made it, it did rise better than other breads I have made, but it was dense and moist. Also, it was a grayish color. So the next time, I ordered the exact ingredients you use, including the same glass bread pan. It looked better in the pan than the first, but it, too, was a grayish color, did not taste good, and was still dense and moist. I followed your instructions exactly and used the exact same ingredients. The only conclusion I can come to is that the sea level makes a significant difference. So disappointing–was really hopeful after seeing the picture of your bread.
Elana says
Mary, thanks for your comment! My MIL makes this all the time and she lives at sea level so that’s not the issue here. This is a dense, yet fluffy bread and it may be that you did everything perfectly and it is simply not to your liking. Here’s something you might enjoy:

Tried this bread last week. Loved it, the texture reminded me of old fashioned butter pound cake so this time I added 3 teaspoons almond extract, 1/3 C coconut flour, and 3/4 C chopped pecans. Used a glass pyrex pan, the almond flour from Costco, and the egg white powder from Trader Joe’s. It turned out excellent. Can use it as a pound cake or sandwich bread. I have all your cook book and use them often.
Next time I am going to try orange extract and pecans. Thankx for this bread, I’ve been waiting a long time for this.

Kristie says
I’m confused, please explain. I checked the carbs in a quarter cup of almond flour and it’s 6 gm. So if this loaf has 4 cups in it, that is 96 Gran’s of carbs, how is this keto? I’m disappointed because I really wanted to make this.
Elana says
Kristie, thanks so much for your comment! There are 16 slices in this loaf, so the carbs are very reasonable. It’s ok to have some carbs on keto, they key is balancing them out with healthy fat :-)
Rebecca says
Are you eating the whole loaf?
Mark Arthur says
There are actually only 3 net carbs per 1/4 cup. That would equal 3 grams of carbs a slice. Pretty reasonable.
Elana says
Thanks Mark!
Kim Gile says
Hi Elana,
I love your recipes!
I have made many of them and they always come out great.
I see that it says to let the bread cool overnight before wrapping in a paper towel and putting in a baggie.Does that mean leave it out on the counter not in anything? If that is the case, wouldn’t it dry out?
I just want to make sure I understand.
Thank you for all you do,
Kim
Elana says
Kim, you can leave it in the pan or take it out. Almond flour breads are so moist that a little drying out can be a good thing :-)
Claudia says
Hi, Thanks for this recipe. I have made kept bread before without the protein powder and it turned out just fine. I used 1 1/2 cups of almond flour 6 large eggs (separated), 4 Tbsps. melted butter, 3 tsps. Baking powder (no aluminum), 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar and a pinch of salt. In a food processor mix egg yolks, almond flour melted butter and baking powder. Whip egg whites with cream. of tartar. Mix 1/2 of egg whites into almond flour mixture then remainder of egg whites. Put into prepared pan and bake for 30 mins. at 375 degrees.
I did not use any egg white protein powder.
Elana says
Thanks Claudia!
Meredith Moore says
Thanks so much for putting this Claudia! I didn’t want to have to purchase egg white powder and was wondering if I could just use egg whites to make this bread. So glad I read through the comments!
Elana says
Thanks for sharing your experiment with this Claudia :-)
Cindy says
I made my own egg white powder by beating egg whites til stiff peaks formed, then spreading them onto an ungreased, parchment paper lined sheetcake pan, and baking on the lowest setting in my oven for 4 hours. (My oven runs hot). When they were completely dried (they’ll turn golden), I broke them up with my hands, and then reduced them to a powder with my immersion blender. I store them in a mason jar with a tight lid. I’m on a fixed income, so I have to improvise everywhere I can.
Tammy says
wonderful idea!
Judy B says
Thank you for that info. I had no idea it would be so easy to make and I too can stand to save the money!
Kelly Klinker says
What brand almond flour did u use? I have bobs red mill (just starting keto so would like to be able to use it…. understanding it might not be the bet for the recipes on this page)
Elana says

Have a great day!

Kim says
I’ve made that exact some recipe as Claudia and it did not turn out tall and fluffy like the picture here. It was short and dense with that many eggs to the small amount of almond flour.
Elana says
Kim, I hope you’ll try this recipe as written, you’ll love it :-)
