The dates that I’ve used in this Brownie with Almond Flour recipe have been beautifully moist, which makes the batter come out perfectly fudgy.
The recipe won’t work with dry dates that have been sitting around in your pantry for months.

Healthy Brownies Recipes
Brownies are one of my husband’s favorite desserts, so I make them quite often.
He loves chocolatey treats, and I love that he’s getting a healthy dessert rather than processed junk food.
Below are my favorite healthy brownie recipes!
Brownies Easy
The five-ingredient brownie in my latest book, Paleo Cooking from Elana’s Pantry, is a fan favorite.
These healthy brownies are not only flourless and nut-free, they’re also super easy to throw together.
All you need to make these are chocolate chips, shortening, coconut sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract.
Have you used chocolate chips in brownies? It creates a super-rich and gooey texture. Time to get baking!
Caramel for Brownies
My Caramel Brownies knock it out of the park –Mr. Pantry goes crazy for these. Just think:
- Brownies with Almond Flour (see recipe above)
- Caramel Sauce
- Chocolate Ganache
Need I say more? This is one of my family’s most requested desserts.
I know your family will love them as much as we do. Brownie points all around!
Brownies with Peanut Butter
Want to elevate my delicious Brownies with Almond Flour yet again?
How ’bout peanut butter and a thick layer of chocolate ganache? Heck yeah.
My Buckeye Brownies with Peanut Butter are little brownie bites of heaven and so easy you’ll want to make them over and over again.
Brownies a la Mode
Are you a fan of brownies a la mode? We are.
Heap a scoop of my Vegan Vanilla Ice Cream over my Nut Free Brownies, and you’ve got the perfect allergen free treat for parties.
My Nut Free Brownies in the photo above are made with a base of sunbutter, plus cacao, chocolate chips, eggs, and a hint of maple syrup.
This rich flourless brownie is quite the crowd pleaser.
Brownies Recipe Cocoa Powder
Have you ever made brownies with cocoa powder? If not, you’re in for quite a treat.
The magical Brownies above are made with a base of cocoa powder and almond butter and pack a high protein punch.
They’re so healthy you could eat them for breakfast!
Brownies in a Mug
Mug cakes won’t ever go out of style in this house. We love this single serve treat.
My five ingredient Mug Cake is so similar to a cake like brownie that I had to feature it here as an easy Mug Brownies recipe option for you.
Brownies Zucchini
My Chocolate Zucchini Bread is a fan favorite because it tastes like Hoho’s when smothered in Homemade Whipped Cream.
Change this bread to brownies by placing the batter in an 8×8 baking dish.
Reduce the baking time to 18-22 minutes, and voila, your brownies with zucchini dreams will have come true.

These brownies were absolutely fantastic! I made them the first time the other night and my husband loved them and asked me when was I making them again? LOL I only used 5 dates instead of 7 and vanilla extract instead of vanilla stevia and they came out amazing! Great work Elana and I’m so glad I found your website :-)
Elana says
Cheryl, nice to meet you! Thanks so much for letting me know that these brownies were absolutely fantastic!

Hi,
I love these brownies! Me and my husband used to buy a lot of packaged cookies and cakes but now we replaced that with home made recipes. I make these every week now! I didn’t use stevia, I just added one more date and they are delicious!!!

My first time using almond flour, and I was NOT disappointed! I made this for NYE dinner, so added 1 Tsp cinnamon and 1 Tbsp ground ginger to make it a little more festive. It was really great, and my blood glucose this morning was only 6.7 so I don’t have to punish myself on New Year’s Day! Looking forward to trying more of your work… Thanks Elana!
Elana says
Jeff, you’re welcome! Glad to hear these were really great :-)
Julia says
Just made it for a Christmas party along with some mint chocolate chip ice cream and it was a hit! Tasted just like a fudgy “normal” brownie. Everyone loved it. This is now my favorite brownie recipe. No need to try out others! Yay!
Elana says
Julia, so glad to hear this is your favorite brownie recipe!
elissa miller-crispe says
I left it in the oven 5 minutes too long! Nooo… they were looking and smelling perfect, too. Now they’re a bit dry and cakey. :( That’ll teach me not to play with a recipe before I’ve followed it correctly at least once!
I used 1/2 cup avocado and 1/8 cup coconut oil to replace the large amount of coconut oil (for cost rather than health, since I know coconut oil is good for you) and used 1/2 cup dark choc chips and 1/4 cup dark cacao powder. Used 3 drops stevia and 1/4-1/2 tsp normal vanilla essence. It worked alright, apart from the excessive oven time drying it out, but it was a bit too rich for me – next time I’ll go either-or with the choc/cacao and only 1/4 cup avocado if I use it. Any thoughts on masking the disappointing texture with some frosting that won’t make the whole thing too rich and fatty?
Elana says
Hi Elissa, it’s great that you decided to experiment! In reading through the changes you made, I can’t really imagine this would work with cacao powder, and some of the other substitutions you listed above :-)
Julie says
These are delish!! Thank you!! I was worried 1/2 cup coconut oil would be too much so did 2 tbsp of it and 1/4 cup butter. This is my first treat in 65 days. I’m soooooo happy. Satisfying for sure.
Elana says
So glad you liked the brownies Julie!
Kylie says
Hi, these look great, can they be frozen after baking?
Elana says
Kylie, I haven’t tried that so not sure. I think the idea of a frozen brownie sounds delicious, with a little ice cream on top:
