Instead of two cups of flaxmeal, I use one and a half flaxmeal and one-half cup of hempseeds.
It improves the texture and provides even more omega 3 fatty acids.
Elana says
Thanks James!
Debbie says
I only have golden flax meal would that work? Also with 5 large eggs does it have that eggy taste so many Keto bread have?
Elana says
Debbie, I haven’t tried that so not sure. This bread does not taste eggy to me :-)
Adrianne says
I made this with golden flax and it tasted very eggy to me. My mom makes a similar bread (she adds some gelatin to hers) and she didn’t think it was eggy at all, but it tasted eggy to me. My mom has been doing Keto for many months and I am just starting to try a few recipes for low carb, so I suspect that my taste buds will change after some time.
Elana says
Adrianne, thanks for your comment!
Deborah says
I decdied to try this bread based on the glowing comments, but have to say I was skeptical. After try so so many low carb bread recipes was fearful that this one would be bitter tasting and too muffin like and not enough like bread.
Boy was I wrong. LOVED this bread! Being the lazy gal I am I mixed the wet ingredients in the bullet blender I have and then added the frothy eggs to the dry ingredients inthe bowl. Got a lovely domed bread with a nice light crumb…..very very bread like. I think the added air from the bended eggs may have helped.
Anyway, thanks for a great recipe. Its a keeper in our house and will be making it a weekly regular here.
Elana says
Deborah, thanks so much for letting me know you LOVED this bread :-)
Deborah says
Making this bread again today (I told you it would be a regular….mmmm so so good).
Because I grind my own flax seed, I wanted to weigh the 2 cups ground so that the next time I can weigh the seed it before grinding (no waste/leftover to store). It came to 6.3 oz of flax (same weight of course unground as ground….just the volume changes when it fluffs up). This helps me get a more consistent bake when I get weights for the critical ingredients. So, hope this might be of use to others as well.
Elana says
Deborah, thanks for letting me know this bread is in your regular rotation and thanks for sharing your information about the flax!
Kim says
Elana,
Thank you for your great recipes, they are indispensable as we follow Keto for my daughter’s seizures.
I have ground flaxseed on hand but they are not brown. Is this an acceptable exchange for brown flaxseed meal?
Elana says
Kim, I haven’t tried that so not sure, if you do experiment I hope you’ll stop back by and let us know how it goes. Your daughter is so lucky to have a Mom like you. ❤️

Ashley Martin says
Hi! Should I use the organic ground flaxseed meal this recipe links to, or should I use brown flaxseed meal? Does it matter too much? Thanks!
Elana says
Ashely, any ground brown flax meal that is fresh should work :-)
Connie S McDonald says
What can be substituted for flax meal. I think flax is a no no for cancer diets.
Elana says
Connie, I haven’t tried that so not sure. Here’s a link to another one of my Keto Bread recipes for you that does not contain flax:

Enjoy!

I love this bread, thank you so much. I was getting worn out from all the nut breads and knew I needed to find an alternative. When I google searched nut free keto breads yours popped up. I should have known! I love the “light” texture of it, it’s not dense like the nut breads. This is a keeper for sure.
