My easy Chocolate Pecan Pie is as good as it gets when it comes to healthy holiday desserts.
I worked on this low-carb pie recipe for years, perfecting it back in 2013 which is when I first shared it with you here.

I spent quite some time on this gluten free dessert, challenging myself to use as few ingredients as possible.
I wanted to create something that would be quick and easy to whip up the day before Thanksgiving, or any holiday.

Low-Carb Pecan Pie
This Chocolate Pecan Pie is not quite as low-carb as some of my other recipes.
However, it certainly gets low-carb billing when compared to traditional chocolate pecan pie.
That dessert is made with cups of corn syrup, plus sugar, and milk chocolate served in a high carbohydrate white flour crust.
Elana, Where Do You Get Recipe Inspiration?
I based this Chocolate Pecan Pie recipe on one from my dear friend Karin, founder of Sweet Mary Jane.
I studied her recipe, making several alterations so that it would be gluten-free, dairy-free, refined sugar-free, and lower in carbohydrates –this is the stunning result.
Kid Friendly Chocolate Pecan Pie Recipe
Back when I first shared this kid friendly Chocolate Pecan Pie recipe recipe in 2013, the boys were in 8th and 9th grade.
Kid Friendly Gluten Free Pie
They sampled and critiqued this healthy dessert recipe. The boys and their friends were more than happy to be my testers for batch after batch.
In fact, I remember they had a sleepover back then with a bunch of friends and “snuck” some of this pie as a midnight snack.
They all looked adorably sheepish and guilty the next day.
Kid Friendly Low Carb Dessert
Little did they know they were eating a healthy, low-carb dessert filled with good fat from the nut-flour crust and pecans, and a hefty dose of antioxidants from the organic dark chocolate.
Recipe with Under 10 Ingredients
The filling for this Chocolate Pecan Pie recipe has only 5 ingredients, and you can whip it up in a jiffy. We’ve been in a pie phase of late.
My older son loves making rustic pumpkin pie from scratch each year when he comes home to visit. He told me he might post the recipe here on my website –fingers crossed.
Gluten Free Pie with Dairy Free Whipped Cream
If you’re on a Dairy-Free Diet, you’ll surely want to serve this with my Coconut Whipped Cream.
How to Whip Heavy Cream
If you’re able to eat dairy, this pie is phenomenal with my Homemade Whipped Cream in a Mason Jar.
Since they were very little, the boys have lent a hand and whipped up heavy cream for me each and every Thanksgiving.
It’s a decadent and elegant topping for my healthy low carb dessert recipes.

I love this recipe! My family asks for this every year – and none of them follow a special diet. Thank you for all your hard work so that my daughter can enjoy the holidays while eating the same delicious desserts as everyone else!
Elana says
Hi there, so glad to hear that your family enjoys the Chocolate Pecan Pie every year!!!
Kristin says
I made these in a small sheet pan as bars. Used all measurements exactly just watched the oven for time. There was only one problem, my family ate them all!!! I have made the pie before as well with the same problem. So my advice is to always hide some for yourself! Thank you Elana for making for such a great treat but its too good that everyone eats it and fast!
Elana says
Thanks Kristin! That is the best type of problem :-)
Kate says
Hi Kristen,
Did you make the crust for your bars?
Catherine says
Made this for Thanksgiving this year…so delicious and surprisingly easy to make!
Elana says
Thanks Catherine!

Elana, I love your recipes!!!! Thank you so much!!!!
This Pecan Pie is one of my all-time favorite dessert recipes. The first time I made it, I forgot the chocolate and realized only when I re-read the instructions to make the Pie again. I actually decided to leave the chocolate out again as the Pecan Pie was so delicious and just perfect in sweetness for me that I decided not to mess with it. I’ve been making this pie for all major and minor celebrations and it is now one of my Thanksgiving staples. Just got it out of the oven and the house smells amazing!
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!

Hi! So I wanted to make a regular paleo/gluten free pecan pie and was wondering how to modify this recipe? You simply omitted the chocolate from elana’s recipe and it was perfect?
Katie says
Looks great! I am trying this for Thanksgiving. Does this need to be stored in the fridge or can it be out at room temperature?
Elana says
Hi Katie, either way will work. If you have leftovers for more than a day though, then refrigeration is best.
Joss says
Hi – I love your recipes especially the biscuits. This one didn’t work out for me; it was overlooked. I always kept an eye on it but it was always jiggly in the middle. Not sure what I did wrong? I saw on tv they cooked a pecan pie in saucepan first then baked for 10 minutes. Would you recommend that?
Elana says
Hi Joss, thanks for your comment. No need to pre-cook the filling in a saucepan. If you take the pie out when it is still a bit jiggly in the middle the filling will set when the fat in the chocolate cools and becomes firm and sets up. If you make this again please leave a comment and let me know if this tip helps :-)
Jennifer says
Made this the other day and it was delicious, although it was hard to cut through and fork through because of the whole pecans. Also, I did not have coconut sugar this time. So, I have it in the oven right now and I used half blackstrap molasses and half honey, and I threw the pecans in the food processor for a little bit to chop them up. We will see how it goes!
Gene says
Jennifer, How did it turn out?
Tina Blacksmith says
This just might be the easiest recipe I’ve ever seen when it comes to pecan pie. And it has chocolate! Oh my…I do love chocolate. :)
I’ve never really liked pecan pie…they’re always extremely sweet and overpowering. I will definitely be making this one.
Elana says
Easiest recipe ever?! Thanks Tina :-)
