My easy Chocolate Pecan Pie is as good as it gets when it comes to healthy holiday desserts.
I worked on this low-carb pie recipe for years, perfecting it back in 2013 which is when I first shared it with you here.
Easy Gluten Free Pecan Pie with Dairy Free Chocolate
I spent quite some time on this gluten free dessert, challenging myself to use as few ingredients as possible.
I wanted to create something that would be quick and easy to whip up the day before Thanksgiving, or any holiday.
Dairy Free Chocolate Pecan Pie
This amazing Thanksgiving dessert is gluten-free, grain-free, and dairy-free.

This is a special pie that could also be one of your amazing low-carb Christmas dessert recipes. I hope you love it as much as we do!

Low-Carb Pecan Pie
This Chocolate Pecan Pie is not quite as low-carb as some of my other recipes.
However, it certainly gets low-carb billing when compared to traditional chocolate pecan pie.
That dessert is made with cups of corn syrup, plus sugar, and milk chocolate served in a high carbohydrate white flour crust.
Elana, Where Do You Get Recipe Inspiration?
I based this Chocolate Pecan Pie recipe on one from my dear friend Karin, founder of Sweet Mary Jane.
I studied her recipe, making several alterations so that it would be gluten-free, dairy-free, refined sugar-free, and lower in carbohydrates –this is the stunning result.
Kid Friendly Chocolate Pecan Pie Recipe
Back when I first shared this kid friendly Chocolate Pecan Pie recipe recipe in 2013, the boys were in 8th and 9th grade.
Kid Friendly Gluten Free Pie
They sampled and critiqued this healthy dessert recipe. The boys and their friends were more than happy to be my testers for batch after batch.
In fact, I remember they had a sleepover back then with a bunch of friends and “snuck” some of this pie as a midnight snack.
They all looked adorably sheepish and guilty the next day.
Kid Friendly Low Carb Dessert
Little did they know they were eating a healthy, low-carb dessert filled with good fat from the nut-flour crust and pecans, and a hefty dose of antioxidants from the organic dark chocolate.
Recipe with Under 10 Ingredients
The filling for this Chocolate Pecan Pie recipe has only 5 ingredients, and you can whip it up in a jiffy. We’ve been in a pie phase of late.
My older son loves making rustic pumpkin pie from scratch each year when he comes home to visit. He told me he might post the recipe here on my website –fingers crossed.
Gluten Free Pie with Dairy Free Whipped Cream
If you’re on a Dairy-Free Diet, you’ll surely want to serve this with my Coconut Whipped Cream.
How to Whip Heavy Cream
If you’re able to eat dairy, this pie is phenomenal with my Homemade Whipped Cream in a Mason Jar.
Since they were very little, the boys have lent a hand and whipped up heavy cream for me each and every Thanksgiving.
It’s a decadent and elegant topping for my healthy low carb dessert recipes.

Dear Elana,
Thanks for the great recipe, the pie looks absolutely scrumptious! But did I read correctly: you’ve been working on this chocolate pecan pie for years now? You might want to hurry up and finish it, pies don’t last forever, ya know! :P
P.S. I don’t think this pie would last HOURS, much less days, in this household either! Guess I’ll have to bake one and test that theory…

Hi Elana, I love this recipe and will make it for sure on Thanksgiving. I am in charge of dessert and always try a few new ones as well as classics.
Ann Sheedy says
Elana I am most appreciative of your efforts and I have your cookbooks—I am wondering if some other type of sugar could be used for the pecan pie—I cannot eat coconut—I want to make this pie—I also tweaked the choc chip recipe adding an egg plus some spelt flour and they turned out great—thank you Ann Sheedu
Maddy says
Just use granulated stevia, splenda or maybe monk fruit!
Mia says
Oh, please allow your son to post his recipe! I love that your kids are inspired by your own creative culinary pursuits, and even writing recipes of their own! I think he would be honored to contribute to your blog, and I think most of your readers would appreciate his recipe.
Fav pie: classic apple pie! (but with noooo wheat or refined sugar!) :-D
J.J. says
Remind me again about coconut sugar. Is glycemic index “Ok” on this sugar, or will it send me reeling? Would honey work as a substitute -or some other sweetner…..and not loose the quality of your original recipe? Being diabetic – sucks…..
Elana says
J.J., I haven’t tried honey in this recipe so not sure if that would work. Here’s a link to my Low-Carb Recipes page for you:

Enjoy!

marcia glenn says
can you make this sugar free for us diabetics?
Maddy says
Just replace the coconut sugar with an equal substitute like splenda if you consume that, or baking stevia or granulated monk fruit.
Elana says
Marcia, I haven’t tried that so not sure. Here’s a link to my Keto Recipes page for you:

Enjoy!

I once had a pumpkin pecan pie — best of both worlds! I’d love to try making a paleo version of it… this may be a great start!
(hint – homemade pumpkin butter works best)
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE your recipes!! <3

I’m definitely trying this one! I but the carob chips at sprouts as they have the least ingredients and no added sugar. they also have coconut sugar :)
