This refreshing Sugar Free Strawberry Lemonade recipe is a favorite in our home on hot summer days, and with each sip comes a sense of nostalgia.
Recipes Easy, Healthy, and Sugar Free!
I’ve been making homemade lemonade for the boys since they were wee little ones. Early on, I realized I needed to craft one heck of a healthy lemonade recipe because, as little guys, they would guzzle it!
Foods with Empty Calories
Most lemonade recipes are loaded with empty calories due to added sugar. The problem with sugar is that it increases the risk of inflammation and a variety of diseases that range from diabetes to neurological, such as Alzheimer’s (now referred to as diabetes type 3).
In order to cut back on the amount of unnecessary sugar (including natural sweeteners) that my family consumes, I began sweetening my homemade lemonade with stevia a couple of decades ago.
Here’s our refreshing all-natural family favorite Sugar Free Strawberry Lemonade recipe!
Sugar Free Strawberry Lemonade
Instructions
- In a large pitcher, combine water, ice, lemon juice, and stevia
- Stir in strawberries, and let sit for 15 minutes
- Serve
Spike in Blood Sugar
You may be wondering, how much sugar is okay per day? The AHA recommends a strict added sugar limit for women of no more than 25 grams or 100 calories daily.

But I don’t serve my family processed white sugar and keep our overall consumption of any sweetener as low as possible.
The last thing I want to do when I feed the boys and their friends treats is cause a spike in blood sugar when it’s not necessary. That’s why I love baking desserts and snacks with healthy ingredients like almond flour and coconut flour.
My Homemade Bagels Recipe is the perfect example of this. I bump up the health factor by adding smoked salmon, a great source of protein.
Easy Recipes for Dessert with Almond Flour

Now in their twenties, the boys are avid cooks and fans of healthy living and keep an eye on their sugar intake too.
One works in a restaurant, and the other is constantly in the kitchen creating recipes.
Like any mother, I could go on and on about them, but then, we’d never get to discuss my thirst-quenching Sugar Free Strawberry Lemonade recipe and other healthy living topics.

Abby (@ No Fail Recipes) says
I love making this recipe but I’m wondering if you could use limes instead of lemons or do you think you would need to adjust the recipe?
Elana says
Hi Abby, we make this with limes and it tastes incredible!
Lisa Carmichael says
I have made this before-but your recipe is much better! Fresher! Thank you!
Elana says
Thanks Lisa, so glad you liked it!
Maria says
My daughter made this and she loved it.

Many people with cd and gluten sensitivity find they can’t drink spirits that have been distilled from grains. So if your adding alcohol to this lemonade make sure it’s gf. Also be careful of non grain flavored spirits (like rum), the flavoring can add gluten.
Mary says
I am a celiac and a doctor told me the gluten from a grain, say in Vodka is burnt off in the distillation? Is he wrong?
Linda says
Juice of 6 lemons is that 1/2 a cup? or 1 cup? How many ml’s.
Leeann says
I had the same question, too bad that wasn’t included. :-(. I’m going to guess approx 2T per lemon, or 12 T–approx 3/4 cup. I’m Going to try that as a start, anyway.

HELP!!! By accident (read: not paying attention apparently) I just bought 25lbs of ‘natural almond flour’ instead of ‘blanched almond flour’. Any tricks about how to make it work in recipes? More eggs? More baking soda? What is it about this almond product that makes it not useable? I tried it with your spicy crackers recipe but added an extra egg and they came out ok. But I haven’t tried it with anything else so far. Can’t really afford to waste $163.00!!
Michelle @ Vitamin Sunshine says
I often use natural ground almonds for cookie recipes and have them turn out great. I also have used almond meal to make almond milk– doesn’t matter if the skins are on there! I also did that when I bought hazelnut meal– it made terrible baked goods, but amazing hazelnut milk.
REBECCA KOEPPEN says
Thanks Michelle!
Edith says
Rebecca…. You should not need to change anything in your recipes. I use pecan meal which in texture/color should be about the same as almond meal with no problem. Unless you need a very light texture (cake) or white color there won’t be a problem with using almond flour with the skins on.
rebecca says
That is great news Edith! Thanks for posting.
Fiona Davison says
It looks so pretty! I have made lemonade recently which asked for the addition of citric acid for some extra zing. Do you know if there’s any reason why it wouldn’t be ok? Thank you for your delicious nutritious recipes x
Evelyn says
Can a person use lemon juice from store instead ? Thank love your received. It has help me alot
Gina says
Rather than vodka, might I suggest lemonade and white rum? Super refreshing!
Valerie says
This is great with a little basil muddled in. Adds a nice herbal aftertaste. Hmm…haven’t tried it with rum, but do like to add some vodka to my strawberry lemonade now and then.

To make this SCD legal , I will use a honey simple syrup to sweeten. I don’t care for the taste of stevia. Looks delicious, and I can’t wait to try it!
