What is Ranch Water?
If you’re wondering, what is ranch water, we’re here to help.
Ranch Water is a Texas-style tequila highball drink made with citrus and Topo Chico sparkling water.
Highball Drink
If you’re wondering what are highball drinks they’re alcoholic beverages with a higher proportion of non-alcoholic drink mix, to liquor, so they’re a little easier to get down.
Best Tequila for Ranch Water
Wondering what’s the best tequila for ranch water?
In our recipe we use rosa tequila –the Codijo brand is our favorite, but you can use any type of tequila in this Ranch Water recipe.
Ranch Water with Citrus
Our Grapefruit Ranch Water is a light, bubbly version of a margarita recipe.
While ranch water is a fun summer cocktail, it’s so good we plan on making it all year round.
Ranch Water Recipe
I had never heard the term “ranch water,” until my boys introduced me to the concept.
This cocktail is inspired by LMNT’s seasonal flavor release! Grapefruit LMNT is the boys’ favorite because it’s so tasty, and goes down smooth.
Grapefruit Cocktail Recipe
Along those lines, right when the Grapefruit LMNT electrolytes arrived, my younger son took one look and declared we had to make cocktails with grapefruit.
Let’s just say, I was all in.
Easy Cocktail Recipes
Sometimes I enjoy making fresh lemon or lime juice for our cocktails and mocktails, but other times I just want to rip open a packet of LMNT electrolytes and hydrate quickly.
That’s another thing I love about this healthy cocktail –you don’t need to squeeze fresh lime juice for it.
Paloma Recipe
He toyed with the idea of a healthy Paloma recipe with fresh lime and grapefruit soda, and other cocktails with tequila.
Finally, after a splash here and mix there, he landed on this mouthwatering grapefruit ranch water recipe.
Topo Chico Ranch Water
We up the flavor game of this refreshing summer drink by using grapefruit electrolytes instead of lime juice. This swap fills the mixology process with extra ease.
You can also use LMNT electrolytes to make lime ranch water, and orange, and raspberry work really well too.
Best Electrolyte Drink
Here’s why our LMNT electrolyte cocktail is fantastic:
- Time Saver –no juicing citrus
- Ups Your Flavor Game –approved by Pantry Brothers
- Excellent Hydration –LMNT salt-based, sugar-free electrolyte
We love this detox-retox ranch water. Using an electrolyte in your cocktail keeps you hydrated and properly detoxing while you’re drinking alcohol.
Homemade Electrolyte Powder
If you’d like to know how to make your own Electrolyte Powder, I have the recipe for you!
Why are Electrolytes Good For You?
If you’re wondering, what are electrolytes good for I’m here to help. According to Paleo pioneer, Robb Wolf, hydrating with electrolytes is common sense. He states:
“Drinking electrolytes along with water replaces what’s lost through sweat, urine, and respiration.”
He goes on to say that the issue with most of the electrolytes available on the market today is quality. The majority, think Gatorade, are filled with sugar and artificial chemicals that we don’t want in our bodies. This inspired Wolf to create LMNT electrolytes.
What Are Electrolytes
According to Wolf, “Electrolytes are charged minerals that conduct electricity to power your nervous system and balance fluids inside and outside your cells.”
Electrolytes are involved in the following functions in your body:
- Nerve Impulse Firing
- Healthy Blood Pressure
- Fluid Balance in Brain
- Support Hormone Production
And so much more!
Dehydration Headache and Other Symptoms
When I started drinking sugar free electrolytes and improved my sodium levels, I stopped getting migraines or headaches and my sluggish bowel motility improved. I also felt more alert cognitively.
For me, the benefits have been enormous. And the crazy thing is, I didn’t realize I wasn’t hydrating properly until LMNT came along.
Further, hydrating with LMNT eliminates symptoms from the “keto flu,” as this electrolyte includes salt, potassium, and magnesium.
Easy Summer Cocktails and Mocktails
Here are some of my other favorite fun and easy to make cocktails and mocktails. They’re all low-carb recipes, so you can enjoy them if you’re on a Keto Diet.
Virgin Mojito
We are all about the highball recipes. With a higher ratio of hydrating mix to liquor, you can’t go wrong!
I’ve stirred the traditional Cuban highball into a healthy sugar free mojito recipe that’s easy.

Hello Madame Pantry!
I would love to try the LMNT product.
I currently mix my own, sea salt, magnesium, potassium , adding in some Silica and Vitamin C. Drop or two of stevia.
The cute convenient packets would definitely change my game.

N, OMG! You are toooo funny. No one has ever called me Madame Pantry –love it, and I hope you are well!
Susan says
Elana, I went to the LMNT website and was surprised to see so many flavors. Aside from the grapefruit which you obviously love, what other flavors have you tried and like the most?
Thank you!
Elana says
Susan, my favorites are orange and raspberry; the boys love lime, and Mr. Pantry is a fan of watermelon :-)
Susan says
Thanks Elana, I’ll try those too!
Elana says
Good stuff, Susan :-)

I can’t wait to try these recipes, thank you for sharing.
I live in Texas and work outside and ride horses. The heat is so dehydrating. I often feel like I cannot drink enough water so I love the idea of adding LMNT to get quality electrolytes into my system. So glad that LMNT doesn’t have any sugar. So many products sound like they are good for you but when I read the ingredients label I cringe because they contain so many ‘extras’ that are not at all healthy.
Elana says
Laura, could not agree with you more!
Alberta says
My husband and I have been GF for 12 years, so family and friends have enjoyed many wonderful treats and foods from your site. Thank you so much Elana!
Unfortunately, I do have a dehydration story: Two months ago my husband was in Oregon, helping his son clear his property. It was the hottest day of the year. They got caught up working and he ‘forgot’ to drink water. He regrettably admits now he allowed his symptoms to go unchecked for over 3 hrs! It was when he got heart palpitations/atrial fib he finally told his son he needed to get to the Emergency Room. Upon arrival they had to give him 2 liters IV to stabilize him. He ended up spending 4 full days in the hospital-his heart enzymes took a long time to come back down. Thankfully he is fine now. And, he is a ‘born-again’ water drinker.
I’d already been using Re-Lyte (by Redmund) for nighttime leg muscle cramps, so he began adding them to his water bottle. I’m so grateful his incident wasn’t worse, but it was very scary…for both of us. I’d love to compare LMNT with the Re-Lyte sometime. Thanks Elana, for all you do. I’m a number 1 fan.
Elana says
Alberta, thank you for sharing this dehydration story here –so scary. I’m glad your husband is now ok! I haven’t tried Re-Lyte, but it looks like it’s sugar free which is a must have for me. Thanks for your sweet words at the end of your comment :-)
Susan Trevithick says
I get stomach cramps and overall achy joints when I’m not properly hydrated. It’s a rough reminder but have found that LMNT is the perfect cure. Thanks to you, Elana, I tried LMNT about a year ago. Super excited to try the new Grapefruit flavor!!
Elana says
Aww, thanks for your wonderful comment, Susan!
JoAnn says
For years, I have been using distilled water for all of my water needs. Since I’ve changed diet, my blood tests were showing that I was low in sodium and at one of my doctor’s appointments, a young intern said that I needed electrolytes.
Thanks to your website,I ordered LMNT unflavored. I use 1 packet mixed in 3 gallons of distilled water and my blood is now in the normal range.
Thank you for the info you shared.
Elana says
JoAnn, I had the same issue pre-supplementation with electrolytes.
Patty says
My teenage son is very active in the summertime and occasionally gets headaches and muscle cramps if he doesn’t mind his hydration carefully. I’m going to have him try LMNT electrolytes in place of the sugar-filled brands he usually consumes. I’m going to try LMNT, too!
Elana says
Patty, thanks goodness for products like LMNT that replace sugar and chemical items like Gatorade!
Shari says
These cocktail recipes look delicious! I fill up a huge hydroflask daily with water & Ultima electrolytes and make sure to drink it all throughout the work day. I’ve really noticed how it helps my energy & focus – and forces me to get up to pee rather than sit too long when I’m working from home. :) I’ve been curious to try LMNT as an alternative.
Elana says
Shari, I think one of the most important things with electrolytes is that they’re sugar free :-)
Justine Clark says
I’m excited to try LMNT. A few days ago I had a headache for two days and it didn’t dawn on me that it probably was dehydration. I’ve been out of town and a little out of sorts with my normal routine which includes lots of water.
Elana says
Justine, I know the feeling :-)
Nancy says
I’ve noticed I’ll get headaches when I’m dehydrated. Not fun!
Elana says
Nancy, so not fun!
