A Holiday Gift

If you are looking for a quick and easy DIY holiday dessert gift, these gluten free candied nuts will do the trick.

The nuts are delicious and take about 20 minutes to make, maybe 3 minutes of that hands on time.  All you need is a 2 cup mason jar and some beautiful wired ribbon (I found mine at Michael’s) and you’re on your way.

1 mason jar
1 holiday ribbon
fill jar with: Spiced Pecans, Candied Pecans, Vanilla Roasted Walnuts, Smoked Paprika Almonds, Trail Mix, Cinnamon Pecan Brittle or Candied Macadamia Nuts

This year I will be giving out these cute little jars of candied nuts along with my gluten free cookbook (The Gluten-Free Almond Flour Cookbook) when we attend holiday parties.

With Thanksgiving approaching this Thursday, the holiday hectic-ness seems to have set in today.  Quite a lot going on, all of it good.

  2. I made both the candied nut recipes this weekend and they were a big hit. What a great idea to give them as gifts. Time for me to head to Michael’s for some ribbon :)

    I noticed that GF Girl’s recipe calls for almond flour. You have introduced us to almond flour and now others are extending your foundational work. Just finished a delicious batch of your almond flour coffee cake a la Sara Lee from your cookbook this morning. Working with your cookbook is like learning a brand new cuisine. So many discoveries. And interesting to be eating coffee cake and realize it is not empty calories but actually protein-rich.

      I can’t remember where it was, but, I have read on a post in the past by Elana that blanched almond flour yields a fluffier, more pleasing texture and mouth feel. I think it’s preferred to the unblanched since it feels more like wheat flour in a sense because the skins of almonds add more fiber and a different texture/taste. I don’t think there is anything “wrong” per-say with the unblanched, but if you check out the “Why Almond Flour?” page, it does say that it won’t taste good. Hope that helps!

  4. this is so great…i am definitely trying to think of good food-related holiday presents, which currently include truffles, cookie or cake mix of some kind, actual cookies or cakes, and homemade candy or jam. hmmm.

  5. This is a great idea!! I’ve been wondering what to make that’s gluten-free but everyone will enjoy. Do you have anymore idea’s to make this gift more substantial for those of us who didn’t write a bad-ass cookbook?

  6. I will definitely keep this in mind; what a good idea! Plus, I feel like I can never have enough jars around the house, they are great for storing leftover foodstuffs.
