Dirty Dozen EWG
Keeping my diet healthy and clean is a must with MS, celiac, and other health issues.
That’s why I use organic berries in my recipes –the agriculture industry heavily sprays conventional with toxic pesticides. Along those lines, EWG calls out strawberries in their Dirty Dozen list.
I also go out of my way to avoid everyday toxins because I have the MTHFR gene, which impairs detoxification.
Sherbet vs Sorbet
Before we dive into dessert recipes with strawberries, allow me a small digression!
Have you ever wondered what’s the difference between sherbet and sorbet? I have! Both are decadent fruity frozen treats, but they’re not the same.
Sherbet is made with a milk or cream base, while sorbet contains a base of water. This makes sorbet the perfect choice for those who suffer from an intolerance to foods such as dairy.

I wonder if this would make well in a popsicle mold? Have you tried this?
Elana says
Anne, I haven’t but it sounds great. LMK how it turns out :-)
Toby M. says
I do something similar but add some Grand Marnier to the mix. I freeze in a pan until just firm and then mix again in my KitchenAid mixer.
Elana says
Toby, that sounds wonderful!
Jill says
Love your new format. My question is whether or not you can make it without an ice cream maker…
Elana says
Jill, thanks for your comment, I haven’t tried that so not sure :-)
Onae says
What type or brand of ice cream maker do you use?
Thank you.?
Elana says
Onae, if you click the green text that says “ice cream maker” in the instructions portion of the recipe you will be given that information :-)

Unrelated to this beautiful looking sorbet, wondering what dish liquid you use when washing up your dishes, as well as dishwasher detergent ?
I have usually bought Seventh Gen prods or Trader Joes, but looking for best/healthiest brand to buy . . . . or to make myself if truly easy & not time-consuming to do ??
Elana says
Terissa, thanks for your comment! Stay tuned, I will be doing a write up of all of my favorite household cleaning products soon :-)

I was wondering if anyone used fresh berries instead of frozen, and it sounds like you did. Did you substitute using the same number of ounces or some other way?
Thanks
Maria says
We always do this with fresh berries, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries…but I never add water just a little honey to taste.. Just blend in food processor and then into ice cream maker.
