Paleo Bagels are the perfect low-carb snack. For brunch, they’re fantastic toasted, then topped with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, along with tomato or cucumber. If you’re not on a Dairy-Free Diet, Paleo Bagels are wonderful with organic cultured cream cheese.
Low-Carb Paleo Bagels Recipe
When I went grain-free in 2001, I thought my love affair with bagels had come to an end. Now, these grain-free bagels from my third low-carb cookbook, Paleo Cooking from Elana’s Pantry, come to the rescue! Paleo Bagels make a great on-the-go breakfast when you’re in a hurry.
Whole30 Bagels Recipe?
These would be Whole30 bagels if there was such a thing. All of the ingredients in the bagel are Whole30 compliant. However, that diet does not allow baked goods, so technically, these are not Whole30 bagels.
Kosher for Passover Bagels Recipe
I’ll be serving Paleo Bagels this year when we break our fast at Yom Kippur, along with Hot Apple Cider and my Paleo Carrot Soup. You can make the soup with water, rather than chicken stock so that it’s pareve. Paleo Bagels are kosher for Passover because they do not contain chametz.

How to Make Keto Bagels with a Donut Mold
When I created this easy Keto Bagel recipe in 2012 I used a non-stick donut mold. Back then it was the only mold available. Now there are plenty of silicone molds that work just as well or even better. If you use this silicone donut mold you will get 9 bagels because the wells are smaller.
How to Store Low-Carb Keto Bagels
To store your bagels, leave them out at room temperature overnight, then refrigerate in an airtight container.

Low-Carb Keto Bagels Recipe
Although I grew up in Northern California, Davis to be exact, I went to college in New York City. That was when I fell in love with bagels. There was an amazing bagel shop on the Upper West Side called University Bagels. Often, after I’d stay up all night studying, I’d get a piping hot bagel at the crack of dawn. Those were the days! Now I need eight hours of sleep a night, and I’m on a gluten-free, grain-free diet. This low-carb bagels recipe made with only 7 ingredients is the perfect treat for me now!
Low-Carb Keto Recipes
Lately, I’ve been eating a lot of savory food and following a Low-Carb Diet. These low-carb Paleo Bagels are a great treat for my low-sugar eating plan. I’ve found that the more I reduce my intake of added sweeteners and fruit, the better I feel. I’m also able to eat a small amount of fermented dairy as I’ve pursued a low-glycemic diet. What are your secrets when it comes to eating less sweets? Are you able to use sugar substitutes like xylitol? Or do you simply cut back on desserts and sweets?
Julie says
Hi Elana, is there a way to make these with out the donut mold?
Elana says
Julie, I haven’t tried that so not sure :-)
Erin says
Hi there, I had extra dough once I filled the donut pan , so I just dropped them on an sheet pan, biscuit style . They rose a bit and turned out very similar to regular biscuits! Baked them the same time and the same temp !
Elana says
Thanks Erin!
Hector says
Frankly, I thought these were awful. Blech!

I Was missing bread/bagels after switching to a paleo/keto diet due to food intolerance. I purchased the ring Mold suggested, which works great. There was more batter though than required for the 6 ring mold so I just put it all in and they came out Muffin style with a dimple! This was just esthetics though as they tasted delicious- I toasted one with cheese and a slice of prosciutto for my lunch and it was not only yummy but kept me full all afternoon- I plan to make another batch today and put them in the freezer so they are always available:)
Elana says
Sue, thanks for letting me know these bagels are yummy and have become a staple in your home :-)
Tessa says
same think just happened to me! next time I guess I’ll split it to make 12

Thank you, these look great Elana! Can’t wait to try them with my new mold (thanks for the good recommendation.)
You asked, “What are your secrets when it comes to eating less sweets?”
I *had* the worst sweet tooth, but my “secret” came as a complete surprise: I gave up all grains and got my sweet tooth pulled, as a completely unexpected gift thrown in for good measure! Never thought that would be possible. Cheers!
Elana says
Debbie, you’re welcome! Thanks so much for sharing your path, I gave up grains in 2001 and haven’t looked back ever since :-)

I have heard mixed reviews on the health benefits of flax (and chia), some so far to say avoid at all cost and that it has been little need to breast cancer. I see you are not on that band wagon. I wish I could join you. These look great. I love the fat head dough recipes, but sadly it doesn’t love me. I have been looking for a bagel recipe for my lox.
Elana says
Gayle, thanks for your comment :-)

My daughter just got diagnosed with insulin resistance and leptin resistance. She is off sugar and gluten and must eat low carb. I can’t wait to try these for her. I was eating Keto before we found out about my daughter and I have adapted my eating to hers which also includes no dairy. Keto is difficult with no dairy and I was sad about the loss of my keto bagels (by the way, I feel better without the dairy). We use Monk Fruit as our go to choice for “sugar”. We have tried Swerve too, but my daughter likes the monk fruit better. Lankato is a company that makes a monk fruit/erythritol mix which also works well for us. They have a syrup too which is good for my daughter. Those are the sweeteners we use. Hope that help.
I love your recipes and have been a fan since I started my Whole 30 5 years ago. My diets have changed lots since then, but I have come to realize Paleo is the way to go for us. Thanks for all of your help in creating these amazing foods that I can feed my daughter.
Elana says
Stacey, you’re very welcome! I’m so happy to help your daughter eat amazing food :-)
Jessica says
Hi Elana,
I’m looking forward to making this recipe this weekend. A quick question: are any of the other brands of almond flour you recommend on your website suitable for this recipe, or must it be Honeyville? 3 lbs is the smallest bag sold and it’s rather expensive!
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful recipes with us.
All the best,
Jessica
Elana says
Jessica, any of the flours listed on this page will work:

RACHEL CAVILL says
hello, I entered your recipe into My fitness Pal. Just wondering why 1 serving is 767 cals? Is there any way I can reduce this?
Elana says
Rachel, for more on that please go here:

Have a lovely day!

Check that you put the ingredients and quantities in accurately. The quantity and types of ingredients wouldn’t add up that high. This says it yields 6 bagels so maybe you forgot to divide. I put it into LiveStrong calculator and got 136 calories, 5g Carbs, 8g Protein, and 10g fat per serving.
Thanks for the recipe, I’m excited to try it. Poppyseed bagels are my favorite, but as a diabetic, I must abstain from regular bagels.
Elana says
Kelly, great tips! Thanks so much :-)
Nakita says
Hi Rachel! (And anyone else with this concern.) I just wanted to point out that when recipes are uploaded to MyFitnessPal, they automatically set at 2 servings. So the 700+ calories was for half the recipe. I know someone else commented on checking the servings, and that is exactly what went wrong! MFP doesn’t upload that number accurately, so it’s something to keep in mind! After I uploaded the recipe and edited the number of servings it put them at around 250 each, which is awesome for a bagel!!
Elana says
Nakita, thanks for pointing this out!

Elana!
Thank you so much for developing and sharing this magnificent recipe with us. You are truly a genius. I ‘m diabetic, no meds, diet control only, it’s been years since a bagel, I am excited! I cannot have any oil of any kind, but I use cultured butter. Thank you and take care…
Elana says
Thanks Laura, it’s so nice to meet you here. I’m so glad to hear the bagels were magnificent :-)
