Nutrition Information for Website Recipes
Over the years some readers have been concerned that I haven’t provided nutrition information for the recipes here on the website. I was a bit surprised when I received the comment below regarding the 1,000 free low-carb recipes I provide here.
Yes, we know you do not answer nutrition questions, but it would be helpful, useful, and simply kind if you would simply supply this information with the recipes you provide. Organic Valley egg nog has 180 cal. and 10 g fat, while Living Without vegan egg nog has 366 calories, 33g total fat, per serving! And Elana’s recipe? God alone knows. Elana– this seems a bit of a grinch like policy on your part.
Juggling My Way Through Life
I’m not a big corporation. I’m a mom with celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, two children, and a husband. Just like all of you, I’m juggling my way through life every single day.
Free Low-Carb Recipes on Elana’s Pantry
I have a thousand free-recipes here to share with you because it makes me happy. Sitting with spreadsheets and calculators? That does not make me happy. That’s what I used to do that when I owned a big company back in 1995. I was 28 years old. I had lots of employees. I was in Fortune Magazine. I made loads of money. More than I do writing books. But writing books is fun. So I traded in my power suit and now I write low-carb power bar recipes.
Nutrition Information from My Amazing Readers
If you check out My Fitness Pal you will find the nutrition information for the recipes from my website. My fabulous readers have done the work for you using that fantastic nutrition calculator!

Wow, the selfishness of some people online who are getting something for NOTHING yet that still isn’t enough for them never ceases to amaze me.
Good for you sticking to your guns Elana.
Great site & great book – it’s helped me help my mom ALOT.
Cheers
Elana says
Thanks Karen! I think we’ve come to live in a society where everything is delivered to us and we now expect it. Although I adore my readers, I need to have time to spend time with my family, out in nature, and just living life :-)

Elana, I’m so thankful that you love us enough to post your recipes.
If we want nutritional values we can do that on our own.
Love, Sharon

Thanks so much Nat!

I noticed in the comments on your Paleo bread post, a couple of people asked for substitutions (I know many did) but these said, “because the ingredients are expensive and they can’t afford failures”. I can relate to that, but have they thought about it from your point of view? I’m sure that in perfecting a recipe you have failures, not so good outcomes, several or many attempts to get it right. That must be expensive for you too, and hugely expensive to test for every ingredient they want substituted, even if you wanted to spend the time. Then too, the nutrition data would be different for every variation. It’s unreasonable to expect someone to do all that in their own time. Thank you for providing the recipe ideas for us to use as a basis for our own eating plans. The rest is up to us.
Elana says
Lorna, it is incredibly expensive to test recipes. I often will test an item upwards of 20 times until the result is perfect :-)
Celestial says
It is expensive to try new recipes. I have found that if I scale the recipe down to 1/4 the ingredients I am able to try more recipes and also make small variations one I nail the original down. Thank you for all you do, look forward to trying your recipes.
Elana says
Celestial, thanks! You’ll love them because I do the testing for you :-)
Diane says
For those who want nutritional information, why don’t you pick a recipe, make the calculations, and then post them or send them to Elana to share? Eventually all the recipes would have nutritional information. I do agree nutritional information is very important for many people, including myself, but Elana is already providing an amazing service with her free recipes.
Elana says
Thanks Diane!

Or use MyFitnessPal or other app that will let you add recipes and do the calculations for.
Sarah says
Exactly… it took me all of a minute to upload the recipe from the web onto my fitness pal and get the nutritional information, very easy :)
While I am not following a Paleo diet, I am always looking for more nutritional baking recipes as myself and my daughter are huge sweet tooth’s and I absolutely LOVE this website, I’ve recommended it to a few friends who now use it all the time – the banana bread, Crispy Choc Chip Cookies and Paleo brownies are fav, thank you Elena!
Elana says
You’re so welcome Sarah! So glad to hear you are enjoying the Banana Bread, Crispy Chocolate Chip Cookies, and Paleo Brownies!

Hahahahahaha, way to go on this post! I HEAR you. Glad you’re doing what you love. And screw the mathematical calculations. ;)

Appreciate your work, Elana, and your response to this comment by stating where you’re coming from. As someone who has found the high-fat ketogenic diet to be the most effective therapy for my social anxiety, I feel that the key is to get curious about experimenting in the kitchen and listening to my body, not merely calculating my macros. But then, I’m not taking care of anyone else’s diet, I’ll admit. Love your website.
Elana says
Thanks Timothy!

Hi. I just put together the pumpkin pie for a family get together. I searched for nutrition facts, not because I care about calories, etc., I need the information to calculate how much insulin I need to take to cover the carbohydrates. That’s a real thing. All I have to do though is take all the carbs from each ingredient, add them together and divide by 12. I will probably use a calculator. Then enter it into a spreadsheet. I am just commenting in case any other type 1 diabetes people stop by here looking for the same. Also because some of the commenters nay-said on nutrition info. For some people it’s not about being a fanatic or being anal. It’s part of the health. It’s embarrassing to care about calories when you’re not fat. I discovered your blogsite last December when I was looking for a figgy pudding. I liked the whole site. I was delighted you popped up when I searched for pumpkin pie+almond flour crust. Thanks.
Laurie Pessetto says
I would love to know for the same reason. Please share what you worked out Liz!
Robin says
Download the free my fitness pal app and use the my recipe option. All you have to do is enter the ingredients and it will calculate and save all the nutritional values for current and future use. Any diabetic should use my fitness pal daily to track food intake. It is awesome with tons of foods already in the database for you to search in a snap (and it can scan barcodes too for packaged foods)!

hehe- this made me laugh.
i love this website. i never buy books. i don’t open them if i do. after making a recipe exactly right the first time (usually) i tend to play and do variations every other time.
your recipes are AWESOME for that!
i recommend this website to anyone struggling w/ celiac, gluten-intolerance, considering paleo, or are just trying to find healthful treats that nourish the body!!!!
THANK YOU!
