Nutrition Information for Website Recipes
Over the years some readers have been concerned that I haven’t provided nutrition information for the recipes here on the website. I was a bit surprised when I received the comment below regarding the 1,000 free low-carb recipes I provide here.
Yes, we know you do not answer nutrition questions, but it would be helpful, useful, and simply kind if you would simply supply this information with the recipes you provide. Organic Valley egg nog has 180 cal. and 10 g fat, while Living Without vegan egg nog has 366 calories, 33g total fat, per serving! And Elana’s recipe? God alone knows. Elana– this seems a bit of a grinch like policy on your part.
Juggling My Way Through Life
I’m not a big corporation. I’m a mom with celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, two children, and a husband. Just like all of you, I’m juggling my way through life every single day.
Free Low-Carb Recipes on Elana’s Pantry
I have a thousand free-recipes here to share with you because it makes me happy. Sitting with spreadsheets and calculators? That does not make me happy. That’s what I used to do that when I owned a big company back in 1995. I was 28 years old. I had lots of employees. I was in Fortune Magazine. I made loads of money. More than I do writing books. But writing books is fun. So I traded in my power suit and now I write low-carb power bar recipes.

Wow I can’t believe that post. I think you do a great job and I have many friends who read your blog and try your recipes. I think dieters, calorie counters, and fat phonics get a little crazy in the head about numbers.

Elana, your honesty is refreshing and your self-care inspiring. What an outpouring of love in these comments. So cool.

I remembered reading this post and being quite inspired.
I know that you do not have time to read bloggers’ comments or anything like and I also realize that you may have already seen this as you are probably more up-to-date than I…but just in case:

Amen! I was delighted to read this post and your poise and class are second to none. I was a personal trainer for years and never even had my clients count calories. All calories are not created equal and it’s insane how this country obsesses about them yet is still beyond unhealthy. I follow a completely grain free and dairy free lifestyle because it’s what makes me FEEL & LOOK the best! People need to learn their bodies and not just obsess over a number of calories or the hottest current diet. It is AMAZING that you provide as many recipes as you do COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE & shows how truly passionate you are about what you do. It renders me speechless when people make remarks about different substitutions or calorie information because nothing is stopping them from learning on their own.
I take my hat off to you to do what you do and still be an amazing mom and wife and inspire many people you don’t even know admire you. So thank you for all you do and even though you don’t need me to tell you so, I love your blog and recipes and hope you never stop doing what you love :)

Never put the “nutrition information” on any of your recipes. That is the last thing I want to think about when I already have to make sure my recipe’s are allergy free. I could care less about the fat and what not when it is obvious that you use whole food natural ingredients. You have changed my life. I think that writer owes you an apology for such rudeness. Thank you for all you do for the celiac/gluten intolerant world. You inspire me constantly.

Well, jeeze Elana….all these responses say it all doesn’t it. I love your site, books, etc. I am with you…if they want to calculate go to sparkpeople.com and get in touch with their nutritional information side. People love easy, clean food. That’s what you have. Thank you for this.
You can’t be expected to know when a company changes their products and expect you to be their nutrition police. Police it yourselves! You would be changing the recipes all the time for heavens sake. I don’t think there is a recipe on any site that I haven’t tweaked a bit myself as I have multiple allergies. I think it’s better to know you have clean food and eat wisely. That’s what you tell us. So thank you. You should know by now that you are highly respected and we all are sitting in wait for you next goodie.
Since I am here, I would love to see more main courses and sides. YUMM!

It surprises me that someone would expect or demand specific information from a blog….it’s a BLOG not a corporate website. If you must have specific nutrition information for whatever reason…seek out a professional such as a registered dietitian or find recipes on a corporate website. I appreciate that Elana does all the experimentation with almond flour so I don’t have to! I love having tested recipes that are great as soon as I make it. Thanks for all your hard work Elana! I’m currently in school to be a dietitian so maybe I can help you with the nutrition info one day if you need it so folks won’t think you’re a grinch ;)

Good Morning!
Oh my, I’ve just read through all of these posts and feel grateful we can all voice our opinions. Here is mine…
I am new to all of this. I am waiting for test results but the key here is that when I eat grain free, sugar free and gluten free I feel better.
I do not count calories and I do not worry about fat content because for me in most cases the fats are healthy and my body likes them. Thus far I have dropped 20 lbs. so I know this works.
I know that nutritional information is very important to others and I respect that. In all things I adopt an attitude of “Take what you need and leave the rest behind”.
While I do not agree with the tone projected by the person with the original complaint, I do recognize the frustration laced in the email.
I appreciate that in response to the original post have people have offered helpful suggestions and sites for seeking nutritional information.
I am baker who recently discovered that at 52 I can no longer do what I have loved doing most of my life. After getting good and mad about the unfairness of it all, I found Elana’s site, the Spunky Coconut and many others.
For free, people that I do not know have offered me a way to explore doing what I love in a new way and I will always be so thankful for those that have blazed the trail before me.
Thank you Elana and btw I did buy your cookbook and I love it. I can smell the banana bread baking as I write this and this brings me great pleasure!

God Bless you, your kids and spend some time with that husband of yours! You have a beautiful gift here for all that want it. Thanks again! Happy New Year!
