Nutrition Information for Website Recipes
Over the years some readers have been concerned that I haven’t provided nutrition information for the recipes here on the website. I was a bit surprised when I received the comment below regarding the 1,000 free low-carb recipes I provide here.
Yes, we know you do not answer nutrition questions, but it would be helpful, useful, and simply kind if you would simply supply this information with the recipes you provide. Organic Valley egg nog has 180 cal. and 10 g fat, while Living Without vegan egg nog has 366 calories, 33g total fat, per serving! And Elana’s recipe? God alone knows. Elana– this seems a bit of a grinch like policy on your part.
Juggling My Way Through Life
I’m not a big corporation. I’m a mom with celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, two children, and a husband. Just like all of you, I’m juggling my way through life every single day.
Free Low-Carb Recipes on Elana’s Pantry
I have a thousand free-recipes here to share with you because it makes me happy. Sitting with spreadsheets and calculators? That does not make me happy. That’s what I used to do that when I owned a big company back in 1995. I was 28 years old. I had lots of employees. I was in Fortune Magazine. I made loads of money. More than I do writing books. But writing books is fun. So I traded in my power suit and now I write low-carb power bar recipes.

I love all of your recipes – I can eat gluten free and not feel deprived. I have calculated some recipe’s nutritional information for myself using the recipe and the internet (sparkpeople is great)… its not that hard. If someone really wants to know the calorie count, they can add it up themselves!
PS Just made the pumpkin bread for my family and it was a huge hit!

Elana, thank you for this post and for taking a stance in prioritizing what’s important to you. It is quite freeing to live a live that is not based on nutritional numbers but instead on listening to one’s body and feeding it the foods that help it thrive. Furthermore, each of us has as unique body and therefore our needs will vary. It is up to each individual to take this responsibility for their own body.
A little over three months ago I went into the ER with a bad headache and left with the knowledge that my brain showed signs of MS. Having already loved your blog, it has since then become a guidebook for me on my journey of discovering how to best fuel my body. Under the care of an alternative focused doctor, I embarked on a 50 day cleanse. Your site was my constant go-to as I struggled to find meals that had foods that fit within the guidelines. I am incredibly grateful that you have created such a great resource.
I now see that my cleanse doesn’t stop but instead will become a way of life. I have cut out dairy and gluten among other things and I have no regrets. My body shows me I’m making the right choice. I feel the best I have in years and have energy to live my life and go to CorePower classes (something i really enjoy) regularly. Dare I say too that i now eat the most fats (healthy) that I ever have and without any intention of losing, have dropped weight and a size. I am comfortable having my weight be a mere side item to health.
Thank you, thank you for creating such a great blog and for helping others live a vibrant life and overcome challenges. You are an inspiration.

Elana,
I’ve been using your FREE recipes on your website for years now. I’ve been gf for about 4 years and used to love baking, but failing so often with GF baking recipes for so long almost turned me off of bothering at all until my sister pointed me in your direction. Your recipes are gorgeous, healthy, thoughtful and most importantly they work. I couldn’t give a rat’s bum about the nutritional content. Everyone knows not to eat too many of the cookies, and to have as much as like your spinach cake (yum). I’m just so appreciative to be able to access all of your hard work, for free, over here in England. As far as I am concerned you are a giver, not a grinch. :)

Hilarious!
Good rule of thumb for all types of eggnog…. don’t drink very much of it and you won’t see it on your hind quarters.

Clearly, the individual who wrote that quote is likely struggling with disordered eating, a weight issue or an otherwise adverse relationship with food. As most followers of this site know, when you learn to eat the “right” foods, you can trust your body and not rely on calorie counting. This individual has some work to do and you are wise not to sweat it, Elana.

Oh my gosh if people can’t figure out some stuff for themselves. Your blog is wonderful. Thanks for all you do.

All I can say is THANK YOU Elana!!!! A million times over. I can now enjoy baking again and feel good. It has brought the joy back into my kitchen, our home and my soul. I am an avid researcher for healthly life style changes for me and my family. Like yourself and many whom read your site, I too have spent most of my life battling serious health issues & learning through trial & error what works and what does not. You and your site are an absolute GOD send to our family. My husband is so delighted to see me so joyfully baking. He is very surprised as he is the cook in the home- not me . Because of you and your inspiration – I AM HAPPILY BAKING AGAIN and he is learning about an entirely different side of me he has never known. THANK YOU AGAIN!!! & HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

My son is 22 yrs old and was dx at 15 with ulcerative colitis. Two years ago a colonoscopy showed a devastated, ulcerated, very sick colon. My son’s GI wanted to refer him to a surgeon. My son and I read Breaking the Vicious Cycle and started the SCD. Your website has been a Godsend. I look to it, not for nutritional facts, but for recipes for good, clean food that we keep my son healthy. Today he has a pink and healthy colon because of this diet. Today, he enjoys healing, powerful foods thanks to people like you who share so freely. Elena, I am so grateful to you for these beautiful, delicious, healing recipes. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

wow,so happy to read this and it just reinforces what my daughter did for her colitis-she switched over to paleo and the dr. was amazed at her results, said he never saw such an improvement before. This verifies it and also makes me sad that ppl who are suffering form colitis aren’t told to at least try paleo and clean eating. My sister in law had horrid colitis for 10 yrs, got better after she made dealt with being a stressed out, but did die of colon cancer a decade later. Kudos to you Mom and many thanks to Elana for helping my daughter and me!! I love Elana’s response, and so glad for the priorities of health, family first which are mine too and for the amazing generosity of sharing these life altering/saving and delicious helps!!

Thanks Lynn! I love sharing my recipes with y’all :-)

Thank you so much for this blog. One of my biggest frustrations with gluten free cooking has been the sheer number of ingredients and steps in many recipes. I love the simplicity of your recipes as well as the healthful ingredients. You got me to eat kale! I would not have the patience to create and test recipes (I give up if it doesn’t work one time, much less any more than that) so I am thankful there is someone out there who is willing to do it for me. As someone with many health issues and a daughter who cannot tolerate gluten or dairy, you have really helped me out and I am so grateful, calorie count or no calorie count!

I also have Multiple Sclerosis and Celiac disease. It’s kind of nice to know I’m not alone.
Regarding the nutritional info, TheDailyPlate.com also lets you enter in recipes, divide by serving and know the calorie content and nutritional info. It’s easy to do for anyone who counts calories. There is no need for you to put together recipes AND let us know calorie content. I am just thankful for the recipes!
