Nutrition Information for Website Recipes
Over the years some readers have been concerned that I haven’t provided nutrition information for the recipes here on the website. I was a bit surprised when I received the comment below regarding the 1,000 free low-carb recipes I provide here.
Yes, we know you do not answer nutrition questions, but it would be helpful, useful, and simply kind if you would simply supply this information with the recipes you provide. Organic Valley egg nog has 180 cal. and 10 g fat, while Living Without vegan egg nog has 366 calories, 33g total fat, per serving! And Elana’s recipe? God alone knows. Elana– this seems a bit of a grinch like policy on your part.
Juggling My Way Through Life
I’m not a big corporation. I’m a mom with celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, two children, and a husband. Just like all of you, I’m juggling my way through life every single day.
Free Low-Carb Recipes on Elana’s Pantry
I have a thousand free-recipes here to share with you because it makes me happy. Sitting with spreadsheets and calculators? That does not make me happy. That’s what I used to do that when I owned a big company back in 1995. I was 28 years old. I had lots of employees. I was in Fortune Magazine. I made loads of money. More than I do writing books. But writing books is fun. So I traded in my power suit and now I write low-carb power bar recipes.
Nutrition Information from My Amazing Readers

It was not necessary for you to respond to the post – and yet you did and it was kind of you to do so. Without a doubt you have more fans than critics. Your fans need you to continue what you are doing; there is not another website like yours. We need it. Thank you.

I’m so glad you wrote this entry! When I’ve seen comments asking you about substitutions, I’ve wondered if you might write an entry like this one.
People have so many different needs, and there are so many different brands, and there are so many possibilities…you’d have to have a team of nutritionists answering the questions about substitutions.
Now a commenter wants you to add nutritional information! “Hey, YOU do the work. More work. Cuz I wanna know.” Really?!
It has always astonished me how many people want someone else to do the work for them and feed them information on a silver spoon.
I’m a former corporate lady too. Successful people take responsibility for researching what they want to know – themselves. They don’t ask others to do it. Especially those offering a wealth of information, as you do, for free.
A hearty cheer to you for standing up!!!

I am a celiac and a formerly fat person. I post the nutrition content of the Elana’s Pantry recipies I make.
Isn’t that a nice solution? Those of us who make your recipes and need nutrition information can post it for each other. There. Settled.
Let’s stop hating and start loving, in an almond-appreciating and gluten free sort of way. heh heh.
About me
My 35 pound fat loss has been sustained for 6 years. I wish I were at a place in my healthy life where I didn’t need to calculate the nutritional value of everything I eat. I’ve tried various “just eat until your satisfied” non-counting eating plans. I am unable (so far) to maintain my healthy weight without doing the math, so I do the math and post it for others like me.
About Counting vs Not Counting
Interestingly, the national weight-loss and weight-maintenance plan that I use to maintain my weight (I don’t think I’m allowed to use the WW name online, not sure) offers two options: 1) counting food values, and 2) eating a wide variety of healthy foods until satisfied – no counting. Both work. I do better for number 1. I don’t hate people who can do number 2 – no counting.
Great post Elana – very honest and evoking of many sincere, personal responses. You are so good at what you do.
If you’ll excuse me now, I’ve got to go watch an episode of “The Biggest Loser” right now (seriously, that was what I was in the middle of doing when I saw this post. I was planning on calculating the nutrition of some if your recipes while watching, since the calculations are time-consuming).

Thank you for doing the calculating! I am on a low carb, high fat diet to keep type 2 diabetes at bay. When I don’t do daily tracking, I nearly always get in trouble. I could spend every spare minute of the day calculating my carbs and fat, but I love having people like you who do it. Also, getting too much protein raises blood glucose, while not enough protein leads to muscle wasting, so I have to watch that, too. I’ve maintained my successful weight loss over two years and counting, but I will continue to monitor as long as I’m able. Thanks again!

I think whomever wrote that is less than stellar. I mean really, like u have time to give nutritional info. The fact that is healthy food and tastes good( I’ve tried/altered most of your recipes)should be enough. Why be sooo nitpicky. And If that is what you are looking for then this blog is not for you. I think your response was right on the money. and kinda of back-handedly snarky, which I liked. COOK-On!!!

Thanks for all your great recipes. A friend told me about your blog earlier this year. I love trying your recipes. My favorites are the goji power bars, choc chip cookies, and chicken parm.
Wish you had your own cooking show on food network!
Happy holidays and good health in 2012.

Elana, you are my go-to site for recipes for all occasions. I don’t know how I would get through my gluten, dairy-free life without your wonderful site. Thank you.

Well said! I appreciate you sharing your great recipes and your reviews of ingredients so that I don’t have to waste my money of substandard products.
