If you own my low-carb cookbooks, you’ll have all the macros available to you! If you’re thinking of buying my New York Times Best Seller, there’s a free sneak peek of every recipe here!
Nutrition Information for Website Recipes
Over the years some readers have been concerned that I haven’t provided nutrition information for the recipes here on the website. I was a bit surprised when I received the comment below regarding the 1,000 free low-carb recipes I provide here.
Yes, we know you do not answer nutrition questions, but it would be helpful, useful, and simply kind if you would simply supply this information with the recipes you provide. Organic Valley egg nog has 180 cal. and 10 g fat, while Living Without vegan egg nog has 366 calories, 33g total fat, per serving! And Elana’s recipe? God alone knows. Elana– this seems a bit of a grinch like policy on your part.
Juggling My Way Through Life
I’m not a big corporation. I’m a mom with celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, two children, and a husband. Just like all of you, I’m juggling my way through life every single day.
Free Low-Carb Recipes on Elana’s Pantry
I have a thousand free-recipes here to share with you because it makes me happy. Sitting with spreadsheets and calculators? That does not make me happy. That’s what I used to do that when I owned a big company back in 1995. I was 28 years old. I had lots of employees. I was in Fortune Magazine. I made loads of money. More than I do writing books. But writing books is fun. So I traded in my power suit and now I write low-carb power bar recipes.
Nutrition Information from My Amazing Readers

Elana, I wholeheartedly support you doing things in a manner that works for you. The way you share your recipes now has changed hundreds of thousands of lives if not more and I honestly see no pressing reason to change it. That being said, you are obviously a conscientious gal and I can tell you love to help your readers in changing their lives for the better.
After scanning these comments (which I always read for tips and tricks before making your recipes) I noticed you do have readers who tend to calculate nutritional information. I, for one, would like to suggest those readers share their nutritional info findings in your comments. Then as you post new recipes you can merely encourage your readers to check out the comments and they may find someone has indeed provided the nutritional info.
It wouldn’t be foolproof, because you wouldn’t be able to personally guarantee the accuracy of others calculations. But it would at least give those “needy” folks a quick idea of what they’re looking at. I’m not sure if this is all making sense, but it’s something that popped into my head.
Let those of us who benefit from your hard work in creating recipes give something back by adding those little details to your recipes after you’ve perfected them. It’s one way we could say thank you for all of your dedication.
Just a little idea, although part of me wants to say, “Don’t give in to that snooty commenter!” I will refrain though. ;o)

I am always amazed when people feel entitled to substitution information and nutrition information as if you (or other bloggers) are being paid the big bucks to sit around and answer our particular questions and help us sort out our quirky dietary needs. Yours is a great response (as was your other one on substitutions) speaking to the fact that you are a real, unpaid, phenomenally generous, excellent cook who is sharing A LOT Of amazing recipes for free. I appreciate your recipes b/c I like how you cook- you’ve clearly got a good palate and like deliciousness and simplicity- and I almost always substitute something- I would never expect you to tell me how, though.
That all said: I’m a pretty good spontaneous cook who has been on the allergy/restricted food/now GAPS/Primal roller coaster for 20 plus years. I’m not easily intimidated and can trust my sense of a recipe and whether it can hold together with whatever I’m going to do to it to change it. I’m grateful for that- and I’m aware I’m not everybody or perhaps most people (thanks Dad who taught me to be improvisational in the kitchen). I think people can get really scared/reactive when they learn about things they can’t eat, and when you are scared- the world, and those recipes with ingredients that aren’t familiar or are ones on your NO list, look very unwelcoming. It’s a bad combo- being scared and not trusting or knowing where to go to get the information you need to cook for yourself. I don’t think you need to perform this service AT ALL- and your readers are incredibly kind and willing to chime in on what to do if you can’t eat eggs, etc. You have been polite about this issue all the way through- and I do have one suggestion, but maybe you have this somewhere- would it be easy to have a forum on “substitutions” and one on “how to figure out the nutritional information for one of my recipes” with links like you put on this blogpost? Maybe people just need to be led to the information?
Thanks for all you do- sorry you had to use your life units on addressing this but seems to be universally true for popular bloggers- and it’s always good to make a strong boundary. I appreciate you. Nel

I love your blog and have purchased both of your cookbooks. If I wanted to know how many calories were in the 3 cookies I just ate (from your cookbook of course) it is my responsibility to look it up and calculate myself. Please don’t change a thing. You are awesome and a life saver to us all with gluten issues.

I can’t belie someone would call you names for not posting nutritional information! Some people just don’t have anything better to do than say mean things to others.
Your blog and your recipes are such a gift to all of us who can’t eat gluten. They’ve made me healthier and happier and not a week goes by when I don’t cook something from your blog or your books.
So mazel tov for the wonderful culinary gift you have!

Your recipes are AWESOME. Your site is so user friendly. Your post made me smile… there really is a real person behind this amazing blog! I can´t imagine that someone was so selfish to ask more out of you than you already give for FREE. Wishing you the warmest of holiday seasons, health, laughter and love for many years to come. Thank you for your blog, your recipes, and your countless hours testing cooking. Warm smiles from Spain.

I love your fabulous recipes–both blog and books! Don’t worry about the critics. You make fabulous, nutritious food and that’s what matters!
And that comment was mean, straight up. Living proof that obsessing over counting calories makes you hungry, which (every parent knows) leads to unreasonable and irritable behavior. Pass the gluten free cupcakes please.
