Nutrition Information for Website Recipes
Over the years some readers have been concerned that I haven’t provided nutrition information for the recipes here on the website. I was a bit surprised when I received the comment below regarding the 1,000 free low-carb recipes I provide here.
Yes, we know you do not answer nutrition questions, but it would be helpful, useful, and simply kind if you would simply supply this information with the recipes you provide. Organic Valley egg nog has 180 cal. and 10 g fat, while Living Without vegan egg nog has 366 calories, 33g total fat, per serving! And Elana’s recipe? God alone knows. Elana– this seems a bit of a grinch like policy on your part.
Juggling My Way Through Life
I’m not a big corporation. I’m a mom with celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, two children, and a husband. Just like all of you, I’m juggling my way through life every single day.
Free Low-Carb Recipes on Elana’s Pantry
I have a thousand free-recipes here to share with you because it makes me happy. Sitting with spreadsheets and calculators? That does not make me happy. That’s what I used to do that when I owned a big company back in 1995. I was 28 years old. I had lots of employees. I was in Fortune Magazine. I made loads of money. More than I do writing books. But writing books is fun. So I traded in my power suit and now I write low-carb power bar recipes.

Please don’t let one(or several) negative comment(s) left for you by one possibly miserable person counteract all the good you do. There are many people (my son and myself included) who truly appreciate the 600 recipes and 2 books. My son is 15 now. He was 3 when I began to navigate the food allergy minefield. I was frustrated easily and, frankly, very opinionated. I was also wishing that just one part of this could be easy. Just one. You gave me that gift when I stumbled upon your site 3 years ago. Your recipes are simple. They are explained well. We are particularly fond of the phrase “until just a few moist crumbs are attached” that you use to describe done-ness in the cupcake book. Phrases like that are exactly what those of us who were not blessed by the cooking fairy need. She must skip a generation, because that same 15 year old is a natural cook. Go figure! I agree with one of the first comments that it would be impossible to post nutrition info. I agree with you that nutrition info for recipes can be found easily. It would be a shame to complicate these simple recipes with info that only applies to certain brands.
I wish I had been kinder and gentler when first starting this journey. She (or he) may someday wish the same thing. We grow, we change, they probably will too, you know? You are awesome the way you are. Please don’t change.

it’s funny how people are. I am a member of sparkpeople.com and always use the recipe calculator to gather nutritional info including your recipes I always boast of Elana’s Pantry website for gluten free recipes on the message boards along with the gluten free goddess and the spunky coconut. You all have been so helpful in my life and I don’t mind a bit doing a little leg work to count my own calories and finding nutrition info for all you have done for my family. THANK YOU for everything, and you don’t even know us! Don’t let one bad apple ruin it the whole bunch, Elana. You are an Angel. Happy Chanakah!

You have 26,133 subscribers. That alone tells me that there are a lot of people who love your blog and recipes even if you don’t give the nutritional information. I can usually tell by looking at the ingredients if the recipe is healthy or not. So giving the nutritional information is not necessary. If I am not familiar with an ingredient can do my own research which is ver simple to do. I love your blogs just the way they are so just keep on writing them.

I have a 5 year old daughter with type 1 diabetes and we use a lot of your recipes because they are wonderful low GI alternatives for her. It doesn’t offend me that you don’t offer nutritional information; I figure it out on my own. Trust me–not because I want to, but because I have to. I am certainly not obsessed with calories or lazy. Quite to the contrary, I work very hard to know and balance the carb count of everything my daughter eats so I can keep her alive and healthy. I assume similiar to how you monitor gluten. Maybe if you do consider adding nutritional info, you would remember not everyone who would appreciate the info is a nasty name caller. Some are just little kids stuck with a crappy disease and who want a stinking cupcake sometimes.

Yes, this, this, this! I said it above and I’ll say it again: some people do legitimately NEED nutritional information; those of us who are diabetic absolutely need it. And most of us don’t have a problem with figuring it out ourselves when we need to. I appreciate all of Elana’s wonderful recipes and am so thankful she is willing to share her hard work with us. If she ever decides to include nutritional info, I will be incredibly grateful! But if she does not, I will continue to be thankful for the immense gift she already shares with us.
