Nutrition Information for Website Recipes
Over the years some readers have been concerned that I haven’t provided nutrition information for the recipes here on the website. I was a bit surprised when I received the comment below regarding the 1,000 free low-carb recipes I provide here.
Yes, we know you do not answer nutrition questions, but it would be helpful, useful, and simply kind if you would simply supply this information with the recipes you provide. Organic Valley egg nog has 180 cal. and 10 g fat, while Living Without vegan egg nog has 366 calories, 33g total fat, per serving! And Elana’s recipe? God alone knows. Elana– this seems a bit of a grinch like policy on your part.
Juggling My Way Through Life
I’m not a big corporation. I’m a mom with celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, two children, and a husband. Just like all of you, I’m juggling my way through life every single day.
Free Low-Carb Recipes on Elana’s Pantry
I have a thousand free-recipes here to share with you because it makes me happy. Sitting with spreadsheets and calculators? That does not make me happy. That’s what I used to do that when I owned a big company back in 1995. I was 28 years old. I had lots of employees. I was in Fortune Magazine. I made loads of money. More than I do writing books. But writing books is fun. So I traded in my power suit and now I write low-carb power bar recipes.

I love your website, your recipes, your writing, your outlook. I think you’re incredible, and that’s before I knew what you accomplished in your ‘previous life.’ Elana, you are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I’m so glad I found your blog.

Way to set a boundary, Elana! Good for you! Cheers! :-)

Some people are so rude! It’s roused me out of my own anonymity to thank you for all the wonderful information you offer on your blog, and for your generosity in sharing your hard work (and fun). I have very often been pleasantly surprised that you offer such goodies for free and not just as teasers to buy your books. I don’t know how to experiment with recipes to find the right combinations, and have to depend on people like you who are geniuses with it.
And believe it or not, I can tell for myself when something has the nutrition requirements that I’m looking for. My husband is allergic to bananas, so I don’t try recipes with bananas. It’s called reading comprehension. :)

Elana, I like countless others, LOVE your blog. All the info you provide is fantastic. I didn’t realize you had MS, I was diagnosed in 2010 and found your blog/books after having testing done to prove that I was gluten sensitive. I personally like the fact you don’t post nutritional info, because the focus should be just about health in general, not counting calories. There is enough of that everywhere else. I am currently struggling with changing my eating habits and with weight. I truly appreciate your blog and find you personally, a source of inspiration.

I also want to Thank you for everything you do!
I will never understand why people think it is ok to leave mean nasty comments when no one is forcing them to read your FREE, full of amazing information and recipe’s blog.
I know it is difficult but please do not let this person who is obviously unhappy in their own life affect yours negatively.

Thank you Elana! You are truly a gift and a gifted person.
I would like to make a comment to the person who wrote to you about the egg nog.
First of all it is egg nog, meaning there are eggs and cream involved.
To take a recipe and remove something means you are going to have to add something in its place. To make vegan egg nog means you are not drinking the eggs and milk needed for the original recipe. You will not get the same effect or taste, sight or smell. or feeling in the mouth. To remove fat, salt, or sweet, you remove a foundational ingredient and more of something else needs to be added in its place to try to balance out the rest of recipe. Low fat people wind up with more salt. Low salt people wind up with more fat. Low sugar people wind up with more salt and fat. It is a trifecta. the three work together. So to count calories, you will have to do your own work as you change each ingredient as each has its own nutritional value. In prepared food,You will also get alot more artifical ingredients, and we all know those are not food. If you are vegan why are you even bothering with something like egg nog? Don’t try to be something you aren’t. Stand up for your veganness and drink somthing else. I drink the rum!

I love what you do Elana and I love your cookbooks. If someone wants to know the nutrition, then they can just figure it out while they cook. It is easy to modify if you want more or less of something anyway, to make it more healthy or not. Please don’t let this response ruin your holiday season!

I’m adding my comment to the chorus of support… :) The person might as well have said, “Elana, you need to cure cancer while you’re at it. Shame on you. And after that, I’d like a unicorn! It’s awfully greedy for you to not do that.” :)
We love your recipes. Please don’t let one trolly person ruin it for the rest of us! :-D

Dear Elana,
Thank you for all that you do for us. You have helped to make my life better. I had to move from America about the time I figured out that I might have a Gluten problem. I was overwhelmed and waited 2 1/2 years to cut gluten out of my life. I was not willing to do it until I found your website and was able to acquire most of the ingredients that you cook with.
You have been a blessing in my life and I thank you.
