Paige says
Hey!
I tried to make this bread in a loaf pan, but it’s rock solid and didn’t rise.
The photo/ photos I’ve seen on instrgram all look super fluffy. Any suggestions on what I might of done wrong? The taste is good but it’s just to dense.
Elana says
Paige, this is what happens when egg substitutes are used in place of real eggs :-)
Hank W says
Hi, Is there any reason coconut oil cannot be substituted for olive oil? Thank you!
Elana says
Hank, thanks for your comment! I haven’t tried that so not sure :-)
Lucy says
Hi Hank, I have tried a flax bread recipe with coconut oil before, but it had a really strong flavor (even though Im used to cook with it); the texture was just fine, but just because of that I will try now to prepare it again with olive oil. Hope it helps :)
Daniela says
Elana,
Is it possible to put egg whites instead of whole eggs? or to lower the amount of whole egg and replace them with egg white? If so, what kind of ratio do you think might work?. I don’t tolerate very well whole eggs.
Thanks !
Daniela
Elana says
Hi Daniela, I haven’t tried that so not sure :-)

I just wanted to say a big thank you for these recipes. I have just started eating paleo and was admittedly feeling quite daunted at the prospect. I made this yesterday and it’s SO SO SO good (first paleo bread I’ve made). I’m really looking forward to trying out many more of these fantastic looking recipes and am very grateful. Thanks, all the way from Australia :-)
Elana says
Pamela, greetings to you in Australia! I’m so happy to hear this bread is SO SO SO good!
Mike says
This recipe is a keeper. I looked for a snack that is healthy, easy to make and tasty. I also wanted to use a bag of flaxseed meal that I didn’t know what to do with. So, I made this bread focaccia style and it has become my go-to snack. The smell of flax seeds is peculiar to me and the bread smells like flax seeds, so I avoid eating the bread alone. Instead, I smear peanut butter across the top and then I only taste peanuts. This bread with a topping now meets my three snack requirements: healthy, easy and tasty.
Elana says
Mike, I’m so glad to hear that this bread has become your go-to snack and that it’s healthy, easy, and tasty :-)
Nikki says
Thank you for this awesome recipe, Elana! I appreciate all of them! Lately I’ve been having this flax bread toasted with a little Kerrygold butter. I then put sautéed spinach with eggs & on top of that some smoked chipotle sauerkraut! The bread holds up great! I have to say this combo is addicting & super amazing! It’s my new favorite low-carb, nutritious breakfast, so I thought I’d share. Be well!
Elana says
Nikki, thanks for letting me know that this recipe is awesome!
Linda says
Well done and great job, thank you so much for sharing all these healthy , wonderful recipes.
I wanted to make this bread today, so I’m wondering if I can subtitute the cream of tartar with lemon or vinegar or anything else that would work?
Elana says
Hi Linda, you’re very welcome! I haven’t tried making this bread with something in place of the cream of tartar so not sure what would work. If you do experiment please let us know how it goes!
Liz H says
This may be the best gluten-free Paleo bread I have had . I made it with the golden flax meal because that’s what I had and it was absolutely outstanding . This has not upset my stomach as some breads made with a lot of coconut flour do . It’s a real treat to have a bread that holds up to making sandwiches.
Elana says
Thanks Liz! So glad to hear this is the best Paleo bread you’ve had!
Barbara says
Hi Elana, I’ve been loving your recipes for a long time now; thank you for contributing so much to our lives. Re almond flour, do you have an opinion on Anthony’s brand? I buy it on Amazon and it’s less expensive than Honeyville (plus the bag closes as it should; I can never get the Honeyville bags to close once opened).
Elana says
Barbara, I haven’t tried that brand so not sure :-)
Sarah says
I just finished eating a slice of this bread with a dab (or two) of butter. Delicious. As well, it has a very nice texture–light and pleasantly chewy. To answer one commenter’s question, I used golden flax meal and it worked like a charm. I also cooked mine in a 9X5 loaf pan for 45 min @ 350 degrees. And, as Elana promised, it took more time for the oven to preheat than it did for me to throw together the ingredients. I’m imagining avocado toast, PB&J, grilled cheese…..
Elana says
Sarah, so glad this was delicious!
Elaine says
I just finished two slices of this wonderful bread! I used golden flax meal as that was all I had on hand. It is a beautiful loaf, slices like a dream and is delicious. I am delighted to find this recipe as my daughter is allergic to almonds, and is gluten-free.
Thank you Elana for your great recipes! Happy and Blessed New Year. :)
Elana says
You’re welcome Elaine! It’s so great to hear this bread is wonderful and slices like a dream!
