Bagels and Locks or Bagels and Lox?
Not only are Mini Bagels with Cream Cheese one of my festive favorites, the boys dig ’em smothered in cream cheese and dripping with lox.
I don’t know why some folks call it bagels and locks, we’ve called it bagels and lox since I was a girl. Go figure!
After School Snack Bagels with Cream Cheese
Mini Bagels with Cream cheese were the perfect after-school snack for my growing guys.
I loved it when my older son and all his friends came home from school before baseball practice and gobbled these up!
Bagels Jewish Holidays
I’ve taken these lovely little bagels to my synagogue where they were devoured by numerous Jews, which I think is a great sign when it comes to bagels.
Bagels Types
This mini bagel recipe is based on the bagel recipe from my latest book, Paleo Cooking from Elana’s Pantry, made into little bagels.
I’ve then smothered them with everything bagel mix (poppy seeds, sesame seeds, and onion flakes) and topped with cream cheese.
It was my boys who asked for an everything bagel –i.e., a bagel with all the toppings.

Molly says
I miss bread most being paleo and I find a lot of bread substitutes use too may eggs. I LOVED these.
I don’t like flax, at all, so I substituted pecans, just ground them up as fine as I could before adding the other flours, added a few tablespoons of chia seeds. I don’t have mini donut pan but have a cake pop maker and made little dinner rolls instead. I cooked them for 4 minutes and got 16 mini rolls. I was pleasantly surprised at how light and fluffy they are, not too dense and not chewy at all. Very nice taste and texture Thank you!
Elana says
Molly, so glad to hear you are enjoying this recipe and thanks for sharing your adaptations!
Lori says
I used a muffin tin, and this batter made 12 little “rolls”. Although this was my first try with paleo / grain free breads, I find it really really eggy! Light and fluffy is true though – not bagel like texture at all. I’m surprised it would be called that, but it tastes like Passover feels for sure.
Connie Strickland says
Molly, how many pecans did you use? When did you add the chia seeds?
Thanks
Missy says
Curious as to the shelf life of these. My husband loves everything bagels but is currently deployed overseas. I’d love to make some and send them but it takes approximately 2 weeks for mail to reach him. Would these last that long? Any advice is appreciated!
Elana says
Hi Missy, I store mine in the refrigerator for that long, but I’m afraid they might not last for that amount of time without being chilled. I work with a group called Military Moms here in Colorado and we send treats to the troops overseas. I usually send these cookies:
https://elanaspantry.com/paleo-chocolate-chip-cookies/
And they seem to hold up well. I hope you’ll stop back by and let us know what you decide to send overseas to your husband :-)

I’m BRAND NEW to your site. :) my brother shared your site with me, he’s a gifted chef! He and his family live in Cambodia and went Primal, he suffers from severe complicated migraines and this diet has really helped his health! I have fibromyalgia and am gluten intolerant. So, your recipes are so helpful, thanks. I’m wanting to know if these bagels and the other recipes freeze well? As I also suffer from serious Chronic Fatigue, part of fibromyalgia. So, it’s so helpful for me to be able to have meals, foods I can just pull out really quick to eat.
Elana says
Hi Deborah, nice to meet you! I have frozen my regular size bagels and it works really well:
https://elanaspantry.com/paleo-bagels/
I haven’t frozen my mini bagels or any of the other recipes on this site so not sure how that would turn out. If you do, please let us know how it goes.
Enjoy!

Beckie says
Hello Elana,
I also suffer from fibromyalgia. What is the name of the book that you recommend reading? Thanks,
Beckie
Elana says
Hi Beckie, thanks for your question! The comment you replied to that recommended a book was from Jo Ann :-)
Victoria says
I felt they needed a slight bit of salt to the top so I added some fleur de sel and were great!
I have this idea to do a change up in the future to stir in some cinnamon and raisins.
On another note- I was curious if I could find the nutrition facts on this recipe? ….
carol says
I have done cinnamon raisin for my girls and it worked well!
Elana says
Thanks Carol!
Susan says
Unless I’m mistaken, this is the same recipe as your bread recipe. Does the pan give it a hard crust like a regular bagel?
Elana says
Hi Susan, this is a different recipe than my other bread recipes. If you slice the bagels in half and toast them in the oven (after they are baked) they will get a nice chewy crust :-)
Roslyn says
I find that toasting in a panini maker is good for toasting many Paleo breads, scones, etc. Paleo baked goods don’t do well in a regular toaster and using an oven or oven broiler is not energy efficient but a panini maker takes very little energy and works well – it does toast both sides.
Tina says
This is more like a batter than a dough when raw. I also don’t have a donut or mini donut pan so I used 12 silicone regular muffins and filled then about 1/3 of the way. Might be a little big, but came out fine. Finally, EASY grain free bagels!
Michele says
Finally tried the bagel recipe from your cookbook and OMG they are making me sooo happy! My husband made them for me the first time and I literally can’t get enough of them! Makes me sooo happy to be eating real bagels again. I’ve since tried several of your cupcake recipes (Vanilla and Vegan Chocolate) and my kids are devouring them! Thanks so much for bringing food happiness back to so many!
Suzn says
Is there any nutritional info available?
Lilianna O. says
Simply the best !!!
Thank you Elana for all your recipies :-*
Nicole says
I made these and they were the best substitute yet, they really satisfied my bagel craving. My husband and I ate them so fast I had to make another batch a couple days later.
