Diagnosed with Celiac Disease
I started creating healthy dessert recipes when I was diagnosed with celiac disease in 1998, during the Dark Ages of gluten free.
At that point, following a gluten free diet became critical.
Over the years, I’ve learned how important eating low carb is as well, given that celiac and diabetes ride on the same gene –having one increases the likelihood of having the other.
Easy Gluten Free Recipes
This is also why I started following a grain free diet, a couple of decades ago. Almond flour and coconut flour make up the base of my easy gluten free recipes. No corn, potato, or rice flour here!
Recipes with Almond Flour
After testing just about every gluten-free flour available, I can save you a lot of time and hassle when I say that almond flour is far superior to most other gluten free flours in terms of:
- Taste
- Ease of Use
- Nutrition
Easy Recipes for Gluten Free Desserts
And this crisp is another one of my easy recipes for gluten free desserts made with almond flour.
It also has even less added sweetener than the usual peach crisp, with only one tablespoon of maple syrup in the entire recipe.
Recipes for Healthy Desserts with Fruit
Yes, you can have your cake and eat it too! This is important when dessert is your favorite part of the meal and you don’t believe in deprivation.

Apple Crisp Recipe Easy
When I create a recipe, saving time in the kitchen is essential, but preparing delicious and nutritious recipes for my family is just as important.
My Apple Blackberry Crisp can be assembled in 10 minutes!
It’s made with apples, blackberries, lemon juice, and vanilla, then finished off with a high protein almond flour crumble topping, sweetened with a touch of maple syrup.
The boys used to say, mom, would you make us a apple crisp recipe when they were little, and I would chuckle as they fumbled adorably for the proper article while making their request.
Now they’re all grown up and still ask for apple crisp when they come home to visit!

Recipe for Berry Crisp
Bursting with low carb fresh strawberries, my healthy sugar-free Strawberry Crisp is a great keto dessert.
This is a truly simple recipe made with 5 ingredients, where your oven does most of the work.
While baking the strawberries, use your food processor to pulse together the low carb, gluten free topping made with almond flour, slivered almonds, salt, and shortening or butter.
Recipes for Plum Jam
Luscious homemade jam is fruit at its finest. My Sugar Free Plum Jam Recipe cooks down the whole fruit with water, lemon juice, and stevia. Nothing more!
It’s full of fiber, loaded with a healthy dose of vitamin C, and bursting with tart flavor.
I love serving Sugar Free Plum Jam on top of toasted Keto Bread smothered in ghee.

I made this with extra topping and added blueberries and raspberries. Served it with a protein smoothie for breakfast = happy family! Everyone loved it!
Elana says
Joanne, that’s awesome! I’m so happy to hear your family loves this crisp :-)

Making this peach crisp right now with fresh picked peaches from our peach tree! I substituted coconut oil for the butter. The consistency seemed okay when I put it on raw! I guess we’ll see how it turns out once done! I’m excited to taste it!
Elana says
Thanks Kati!
Cyndi says
In the oven. Beautiful Calhoun County peaches. Will top with whipped organic valley creme. Can’t wait!
Elana says
Cyndi, that sounds amazing!
Joetta says
I made this yesterday, and used hazelnut flour instead of almond, since that’s what I had.
It’s yummy, but the ratio of peaches to crumb feels off, with too much crumb. But that’s maybe just my preference and good to know for next time!
For those looking to make this, it is VERY light on sweetness. I like that because it lets the sugar from the peaches shine, but if you’re looking for a sugary crisp this won’t be your thing.
Elana says
Joetta, thanks for your comment. I think you’ll find this is perfect if you use the recommended ingredients :-)
Melanie says
My sister is on new restrictions and can’t have processed food. It is difficult to find a recipe that works for her! She can have almond flour and I’ll switch out the syrup for honey and I’m so excited to try this. Thanks.
Elana says
Melanie, you’re very welcome!
April says
I made this today for my son. I used peaches and blueberries which were a nice combination. I added some extras to the topping (cinnamon, nutmeg, and chopped pecans). Unfortunately, the topping still tasted bland to me. My son liked it and I like that he’s not getting tons of sugar.
Elana says
April, feel free to customize this to your heart’s desire! I’m so glad that your son liked it :-)
Robin says
I love that you kept it simple with very little added sweetness. I simply added blueberries as well as a little shredded unsweetened coconut on top. It was wonderful and will be my go to crisp because it is so healthy and simple.
Elana says
Robin, thanks for your comment! I’m so happy to hear this was wonderful and that it will be your go to crisp, we love it too :-)
Kristin says
Hi Elana! I have started using you as my go to for Paleo everything. I am going to make this recipe for an Easter dessert. I noticed someone said something about frozen peaches, but didn’t see what you said. Have you used frozen peaches before? Just want to see if it will taste the same.
Thanks so much!
Elana says
Hi Kristin, I’m so happy to hear that my recipes are your go to! It’s great with frozen peaches :-)
