When I think of spring, I think of spring cleaning which makes me think of detoxing.
This brings green juice to mind, and I have the perfect go-to green drink for you.
Cilantro Detox Juice Recipe
This Cilantro Detox Juice is packed with incredible phytonutrients that have healing properties.
What is Cilantro Good For?
Cilantro chelates heavy metals from the body, which is important since I have the MTHFR genetic mutation which can impair detoxification.
Is Cilantro Good for Cleansing?
Since cilantro is so great for cleansing, I drank a quart of this green juice every day when I was diagnosed with heavy metal toxicity in 2004.
Rather than doing medical chelation, which I thought would be too hard on my body, my doctor suggested that I eat A LOT of cilantro.

What is Detox Juice Good For?
In addition to helping detox heavy metals, cilantro also helps build healthy skin and hair and reduces the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
Further, it contains antimicrobial properties, which is likely why it’s been widely used in cooking for cultures in warmer climates, prior to the development of refrigeration.
Cilantro Health Benefits
The health benefits of cilantro are numerous. This superfood contains compounds that reduce the risk of:
- Heart Disease
- Obesity
- Diabetes
Further, cilantro contains a substance called dodecenal. This antimicrobial compound is thought to protect the body against infections caused by food spoilage.
Healthy Green Detox Juice Recipe
For this healthy juice recipe, I use all of the cilantro, both leaves, and stems.
I also do this for cooking because it stretches my food dollars, and reduces prep work and food waste.
The stems of cilantro taste every bit as good as the leaves!
Is Cilantro Parsley?
I’m often asked if cilantro and parsley are the same thing. To this, I must reply with a resounding NO.
While both are very bright leafy greens that grow on long, thin stems, to me they taste nothing alike.
Many people confuse flat-leaf parsley with cilantro because they look so similar. Parsley is more of a Mediterranean herb while cilantro is often used in Mexican, Thai, and Indian food.
Both parsley and cilantro have numerous health benefits. Herbs in general are packed with micronutrients and healthy anti-inflammatory compounds.
Is Juicing Good for You?
When it comes to juicing some people worry about losing the fiber.
If that concerns you, blend your veggies in a high-speed blender such as a vitamix or blendtec.
I haven’t tried that, so I’m not sure if it will taste as good as my Cilantro Detox Juice.
I get plenty of fiber since I eat many servings of vegetables each day. For me, juicing is like taking a supplement.
Green Juice Detox Recipe
While juice is not a whole food, that doesn’t mean it isn’t extremely healthy.
Pushing superfoods through the juicer gives me extra micronutrients that my digestive system would not have space for.
Health Benefits of Juicing
Because our soil is depleted, even organic food has diminished nutritional value.
Juicing is my insurance, it may not be for everyone, but it’s perfect for me.
The Best Juicer
You’ll notice I reference my Breville Juicer not only in this recipe but quite often on the site. I find this is one of the best bang for your buck juicers.
Better yet? I’ve had mine for ten years now with no issues.
Easy Juicing Recipe
When I make my Cilantro Detox Juice I leave the skin on the produce.
When I spoke to the company (Breville) they advised me not to push unpeeled citrus through it as this may decrease the lifespan of the juicer.
Still, I leave the skins on, as I want all of the bioflavonoids found in the citrus skin.
Green Juice Recipes for Detoxing
As you can see, I love juicing and I adore my healing Cilantro Detox Juice! If you’re looking for more healthy green juice recipes try these too.

My Green Lemonade contains similar ingredients to the above recipes, however, this one is supercharged with kale. Anytime I can sneak kale into my diet I’m in!

I made this in my vitamix, so I thought I’d share the results!
Same amounts of everything. I peeled the cucumber and ginger. I hand squeezed the lemon and lime (came out to 1/2c juice together). Trimmed icky ends of cilantro off and made sure I removed all rotting leaves hiding inside.
Came out delicious! I tasted with and without straining. Strained tasted better, but more effort and removing the pulp is less desirable for some. It was definitely just fine without straining!
Thanks Elana. Been following you for almost 6 years now and don’t think I’ve ever commented. Your first almond flour cookbook was my first cookbook into my new journey of health. And to this day, some of your recipes are regulars in our home! Blessings~

Akilah says
Thank you for your helpful post. I’m starting a cilantro detox too. Do you use Chlorella with your heavy metal detox or your cilantro juice recipe only?
Elana says
Akilah, yes I rotate them :-)
Vinny says
Do you have the nutrition info for this recipe? Does it matter that it is a juice, or does juicing remove the fiber part of this recipe =. I want to enter it in my fitness pal.
Elana says

Elana, thank you very much for the delicious juice recipes! I’ve tried this juice this morning, and it’s wonderful! So easy to make and so refreshing! Also, your crackers (salt and pepper) and muesli scones are amazing! They are now staples at our house. We are not paleo, but we enjoy eating fewer carbs and more nuts; that way, we feel we have more energy and yet lighter. (We eat a lot of veggies, berries and fruit.) My goal is to try many more of your recipes and incorporate them into our diet. Thank you again!

hi, i am allergic to cilantro, i get mouth sores from it (fyi, so does my dad), any alternative herb suggestions (yes know about parsley too) to use instead of cilantro since clearing heavy metals makes sense.
.
I also have severe asymptomatic osteoporosis. i am trim like you and fit and now don’t take drugs since when i did take drugs for osteo for just 2 months i started to grow a chest bone spur. From your research any suggestions for osteo care that you may like to share since also autoimmune?

Elana says
Hi Karen, thanks for your comment. I’m not sure about other green herbs and veggies that chelate heavy metals out of the body that you can use as a substitute for cilantro in this juice. If you do find them please stop back by and let us know :-)

Mo says
I READ about alfalfa being great to pull out toxins. The sprouts sold in store are great on salad ,juices, and in a pita falafel or sandwich. IF you are not allergic to wheat grass in fresh juice or powder/tablet that will help alkalinity PH so bones can be preserved. IF you are not allergic to nut milks that is great for bioavailability in minerals.
Elana says
Thanks Mo!
Sheila Perl says
We made the green lemonade and really liked it!
I have not heard of the measurement of ginger as a finger , can anyone tell me how much ginger that is? Thank you !
Elana says
Sheila, just hold it up to your finger and that’s the measurement :-)
Cindy Fraser says
Do you peel the cucumbers and the ginger?
Elana says
Cindy, I leave the skin on everything in this juice :-)
Sheila Perl says
Lol ! Thank you , Elana!
Elana says
You’re welcome :-)
Judith Fine-Sarchielli says
It is essential to tell people that the cilantro must be organic. Cilantro pulls up all the toxins from the earth and we don’t want to eat them. Organic is best.
Elana says
Judith, thanks so much for pointing that out!
Margaret says
Would this be recommended while breastfeeding?
Elana says
Margaret, I did not drink this while breastfeeding so not sure. Probably best to speak with your medical practitioner regarding this matter.
