These Girl Scout cookies are called Peanut Butter Patties or Tagalongs, and guess what? I’ve made them gluten-free and Paleo. Now you can enjoy more gluten-free, Paleo Girl Scout Cookies. No need to give in to cravings for the regular (sugar-filled, gluten-filled) Girl Scout Cookies which are everywhere this time of year.
When I was a girl I was in a troupe called the Blue Birds. It was very similar to the Girl Scouts, except we sold Blue Bird candy instead of Girl Scout cookies. I had great fun going door-to-door selling candy to our neighbors. This was good preparation for the canvassing I later did for NYPIRG after I graduated from Columbia.

These peanut-free, dairy-free, vegetarian Tagalong cookies are best stored in the refrigerator or freezer –your choice will depend on the level of crunch that you like in your cookie.
My previous two Girl Scout Cookie recipes are based on recipes from Tammy Credicott’s book Paleo Indulgences, however, these Tagalongs are my own version of the regular Tagalong Girl Scout Cookie –they’re a simple gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free almond flour cookie with some sunflower seed butter and dark chocolate. Thanks, though, do go to Tammy for getting me on a Girl Scout cookie roll!

I just made the Paleo thin mints yesterday and am looking forward to trying these out too. My question revolves around the chocolate for dipping. When I tried melting it, it just turned into a sticky mess, not smooth. I ended up having to smooth out with coconut milk. Anyone else have this issue?
Michele says
I’m wondering if the chocolate was heated too high? I melt dark chocolate bars all the time (my favorite is Chocolove, but I often use Trader Joe’s dark chocolate) and only have had a problem when I’ve had it too high or not stirred enough. Sometimes I add in coconut cream to make it more of a frosting for cupcakes or coconut oil if I want to thin it down and keep it a bit softer.

Elana,
We’ve been making Samoas (Caramel deLites) and Thin Mints since the recipes were posted. Thank you, thank you, thank you! My daughter, who sells Girl Scout cookies, has been able to taste them for the first time. We are all very touched by the posting of these recipes.
My daughter would really like to taste next the Lemonades (savory slices of shortbread with a refreshingly tangy lemon-flavored icing). And I’d like to make the Thanks-A-Lot (shortbread cookies dipped in rich fudge).
More details can be found at www dot abcsmartcookies dot come forward slash america’s dash best dash cookies. (abc bakers are one of two companies that source Girl Scout cookies; the other bakery may have different cookie names and flavors.)
I’m making another batch of Samoas today; tagalongs will be up next!
Blessings,
Shari in NC

I wonder if coconut oil will work in place of the vegan shortening?
Rebecca H says
I wondered the same thing, Would love an answer
Barbara says
Yes, I used Coconut Oil instead of Vegan shortening and everything turned out fine. Especially because at this time of year, at my house, it is solid instead of being liquid so it reacts in the cookie dough the same way a shortening would.
Dana says
I always sub grass fed butter for vegan shortening with great results!
Andrea Fields says
I would love to see a paleo version of the Thank You Berry Munch Girl Scout cookies.

Bless your heart! I’m LOVING these Girl Scout cookie recipes. I haven’t tried any yet, but I’m looking forward to it!

Is there any reason not to use peanut butter rather than sunbutter?
Dawn @ cuter than gluten says
Peanut butter is not considered a Paleo food, so she is using sunbutter to make it “Paleo”. I bet you could use peanut butter or almond butter in this recipe and have great results…
Jocelyn says
We are paleo and still eat some peanut butter…I have read why no peanut butter for paleo and I am not convinced :)
