Nutrition Information for Website Recipes
Over the years some readers have been concerned that I haven’t provided nutrition information for the recipes here on the website. I was a bit surprised when I received the comment below regarding the 1,000 free low-carb recipes I provide here.
Yes, we know you do not answer nutrition questions, but it would be helpful, useful, and simply kind if you would simply supply this information with the recipes you provide. Organic Valley egg nog has 180 cal. and 10 g fat, while Living Without vegan egg nog has 366 calories, 33g total fat, per serving! And Elana’s recipe? God alone knows. Elana– this seems a bit of a grinch like policy on your part.
Juggling My Way Through Life
I’m not a big corporation. I’m a mom with celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, two children, and a husband. Just like all of you, I’m juggling my way through life every single day.
Free Low-Carb Recipes on Elana’s Pantry
I have a thousand free-recipes here to share with you because it makes me happy. Sitting with spreadsheets and calculators? That does not make me happy. That’s what I used to do that when I owned a big company back in 1995. I was 28 years old. I had lots of employees. I was in Fortune Magazine. I made loads of money. More than I do writing books. But writing books is fun. So I traded in my power suit and now I write low-carb power bar recipes.

Elana,
Here is a video about MS. It is a must watch for anyone with MS. Maybe you already saw it, but it is my duty to let you know.

Thanks for all that you do. The critics will be there – just let them be.

This rant has been quite the overreaction. I feel sorry for the reader who asked a question that I’m sure more than a few people have been wondering.

I’m sitting here shaking my head in wonder. You have my sympathies Elana. Thanks for posting your recipes they have helped this diabetic make healthier choices.
For people who want a hard copy of nutrition information, may I recommend ‘The NutriBase Nutrition Facts Desk Reference’ by Dr. Art Ulene. My copy was copyrighted in 1995. I still use it when I want to know the minutiae about some ingredient in a food. And you can always ‘Google’ the ingredients.

Elana,
You are fantastic! What a great reply to such a rude comment. Your recipes have saved my sanity while becoming gluten free. I would have given up if not for your wonderful, easy chocolate chip cookie recipe. :-)
Thank you! Many hugs, and wishes for continued good health!

Love you Elana. : )

I’ve been following your blog for a while but never commented until now. I’m amazed by this mean-spirited comment you received. Why do people feel entitled to certain information, when you are already being generous? Is there some unwritten rule about providing nutrition info? I think not! Frankly, I am shocked. And I’m sure you were too.
Like the others here, I would like to express my appreciation for what you have shared. Having lived an absolutely healthy life until now, I decided to have a baby. I got gestational diabetes and, since the birth, will have diabetes for the rest of my life. Finding some ways to cook and bake grain-free (although I must make everything sugar-free, too) has given me an enormous amount of comfort. Thank you so much Elana for your recipes.

It never occurred to me that you (or any other blogger) would provide nutritional data. Anyone on these dietary journeys has to know this. Also, many of us have multiple food issues and may need to adjust the recipes. I’ve been following your blog for over a year and didn’t know you have MS. I’m GF (and about 25 other foods free) to help manage my MS.
Thanks for all you do. Seeing your blog highlighted in my Google Reader makes my day.

I also have celiac disease & multiple sclerosis. I have always loved to bake & shortly after I was diagnosed I thought I would never bake again until I found Elana’s site. She is a godsend. Who cares about the numbers, they are arbitrary numbers made up by people who don’t know squat. I love all of the effort she puts into getting these recipes out on the web & being someone who suffers from MS I know how taxing it can be on expending all of that energy. Thank You Elana

People who know the real way to eat healthfully don’t need nutrition info! I love your recipes, thank you, and I love reading the more personal blog entries as well. Glad to hear you are doing well health-wise.

Well let me add my voice. Thank you for not putting nutritional information. I eat Paleo and could not care one bit about counting calories and my weight has stabilized. I also have gluten sensitivity and am cooking challenged. I love this site and your books. Thanks for working out all of the kinks in a dish so that when i prepare it I look like a gifted chef!
