Nutrition Information for Website Recipes
Over the years some readers have been concerned that I haven’t provided nutrition information for the recipes here on the website. I was a bit surprised when I received the comment below regarding the 1,000 free low-carb recipes I provide here.
Yes, we know you do not answer nutrition questions, but it would be helpful, useful, and simply kind if you would simply supply this information with the recipes you provide. Organic Valley egg nog has 180 cal. and 10 g fat, while Living Without vegan egg nog has 366 calories, 33g total fat, per serving! And Elana’s recipe? God alone knows. Elana– this seems a bit of a grinch like policy on your part.
Juggling My Way Through Life
I’m not a big corporation. I’m a mom with celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, two children, and a husband. Just like all of you, I’m juggling my way through life every single day.
Free Low-Carb Recipes on Elana’s Pantry
I have a thousand free-recipes here to share with you because it makes me happy. Sitting with spreadsheets and calculators? That does not make me happy. That’s what I used to do that when I owned a big company back in 1995. I was 28 years old. I had lots of employees. I was in Fortune Magazine. I made loads of money. More than I do writing books. But writing books is fun. So I traded in my power suit and now I write low-carb power bar recipes.

So is the writer a professional Grinch or just some random, lonely creep who found an easy target on the net? Please Elana, whether we say so or not, you help tons of people; don’t let some nameless self-aggrandizing sadist pain you. You are not required to provide everything to every one. I’d worry about providing nutritional info when smug, inflated ego person starts paying for it. IMHO I neither want it or need it.

Wow. Grinch-like? Yeah, like a Grinch would post FREE nutritional recipes. That person needs a Merry Christmas and a swift kick in the rear. You are a blessing, Elana. To me. My transition to gluten-free has been delicious for me and my little family because of your blog. I love baking with almond flour and I love that I am feeding my family nutrition-packed foods, even when they eat cookies! Thank you. God bless you. Merry Christmas!

Elana, I just wanted to tell you how much I love your two cookbooks and the recipes you provide on your website! As stated by many of your other fans, I couldn’t care less about nutritional content or caloric values! Your recipes are healthy and delicious and that’s all I need to know! I credit you and primal author Mark Sisson for saving my life. No kidding! I’m diabetic and hypertensive and the gluten-free/paleo/primal way of eating has improved my health dramatically (I have the lab results to prove it and, besides, over the last two years I’ve managed to whittle down from a size 20 to a size 14/16!) Thank you!
I am a middle school teacher and I recently mentioned to my students that the despicable comments I have seen on various blogs are quite repugnant to me. Some folks are so hateful! At any rate, I invariably become a “broken record” by constantly exhorting my young scholars to refrain from exhibiting such disgraceful behavior. One can certainly express an opinion without being nasty and insulting. Keep up the FABULOUS work and don’t let the haters get you down! Happy Hanukkah!
P.S. I gave your cookbooks to my sister in New York for her birthday last year; she loves them and is having a great time cooking and baking with almond flour!
Love and Blessings,
Nettie

a grinch to me doesn’t write FREE recipes to help people with food allergies find comfort food during the holidays. comment Lady needs to hold up a mirror and see how selfish and grinch like that comment was. Kudos mama Elana for all you do, i am celiac with crohns and my son has sensory issues, your blog/recipes are my go to in moments of festive madness…and you are very much appreciated. Sounds like uptight calorie counting lady needs a bit more of that vegan egg nog sweetness in her life ;) <3

Elana, you’re awesome, great answer. SO agree about nutritional info, how irrelevant. I relate to you on so many levels, also gave up a lucrative career for the sake of my health and that of my family… the most “lucrative” career of all. Love your delicious and super nourishing recipes, thank you. Yvonne

Thank you for all you do, you’ve made recipes that make my family happy, and make this whole Celiac life easier. So- thank you, and forget the people who can’t appreciate what you do and spend time complaining, they’ve surely got other issues in their lives if they spend time tearing others down and complaining instead of living with thankfulness and gratitude.

Elana, I have never once had a problem calculating calories in your recipes. I’ve calculated nutrition information in dozens of your recipes by reading the labels, adding them up, and dividing by the number of servings – basic math, hello? Much love.

Blogging isn’t a “one size fits all” endeavor. If this isn’t your cup of tea, let your fingers do the typing. Keep searching and you may find one that offers you what you want. And if you can’t find that, start one of your own.
Elana,
How sad your reader would make such a snarky comment.
It’s your blog, you can do what you want with it.
Keep up the good work. I enjoyed your polite response.
It speaks volumes about you as a person.

I read your column and the lovely comments that followed with my mouth ajar. It’s mind-boggling, though I guess not uncommon, that you’d get criticized for a lovely and free array of beautiful food. Your recipes have reintroduced me to biscuits and muffins and the occasional pancake. I’d had almond flour in my freezer for some time with no idea how to make it into such treats.
Thank you, pamela.
