Kale Creamsicle

This dark green, luscious shake is my go to drink when I need a little protein pick me up.

To me, the flavor of the kale is not that pronounced, what comes through is the creamy richness of the protein powder with the tart sweetness of the orange, thereby forming a yummy gluten-free, dairy-free creamsicle experience in a glass.  Enjoy!

  1. Oh, I love this. I definitely want to try this with a vegan protein powder. I’ll report back with the results (whenever I get around to it, that is!) Thanks for the awesome idea! :)

  2. I wonder if my girlfriend would like this. She’s not a kale fan but does like spinach (which I imagine I could substitute if I had to). Then again, I didn’t think she’d like your vegan GF chocolate chip cookies, and was pleasantly surprised when she devoured them all– even the ones I left in the oven too long that were slightly burnt.

  3. Have gone back to school after being a divorced single mother raising 2 children since they were in diapers. Recently got remarried and am studying to become a CMT. I’d love to be able to put your recipes to the test with my husband since we both need gluten free and healthy, easy and GREAT tasting yums!

  4. I make something similar to this — a lower calorie avocado shake! You know those viscous concoctions of avocado and condensed milk one can often find at Vietnamese restaurants? Well, I love them, but with all the added sugar they just aren’t something a person can eat every day! So what I do is whiz up 1 ripe avocado, about 1/2 cup of unsweetened non-dairy milk (I use chocolate Almond Breeze), about 7-10 ice cubes, 15-20 drops of stevia (to taste) and about a tablespoon of instant espresso powder (optional, but delicious). It works out to a good snack of about 300 calories, packed with protein (Did you know that avocado is one of the highest protein fruits?) and healthy fats! It’s like having a milkshake everyday!

  5. I have been making kale shakes recently, too. I love being able to take the kale fresh from our garden. I’ll put four leaves of kale, a banana, two cups of water, and some strawberries into a blender. Delicious and packed with potassium!

  6. I actually made this quite often, substituting the orange for half of a banana, and some stevia to sweeten. I’m off all sweets (even stevia and fruits) for awhile, but look forward to making this again!

Have fun at the BlogHer event!

  7. I wanted to ask – what defines a high-speed blender? My friend has a Vita-Mix, and it is a huge thing. And expensive. How can I be sure I have a blender that will make this? It looks delicious. Thanks

  8. I know I would love that concoction, Elana! I love adding kale to green smoothies, which is something I never ever though I would say. LOL The simplicity of this drink is terrific. :-)

Thanks! xo and see you soon!
