After last weeks Almond Joy Chocolate Bark post, I received this message on my Facebook Page from Suzanne Hodgman Hodsden:
That’s really nice, but what about some healthy recipes for us health nuts!
Quite a lot of interesting comments followed hers and a good debate was had by all –except me, I just post the recipes and try to stay out of the debates. And furthermore, while I don’t spend a good deal of time on Facebook, I must confess, I have become a Twitter-a-holic. So hop on over there and send me a tweet.
Today’s recipe is for Green Lemonade. Andrea (a friend of my good friend Chris) turned me on to this delightful drink, which was originally conceived by Natalia Rose.
Green Lemonade
Ingredients
- 1 bunch kale, use stalks and all
- 1 cucumber, I leave the skin on
- 1 lemon, I leave the peel on
- 1 Granny Smith apple, remove core
Instructions
- Juice all ingredients with a juicer
- Place green lemonade in glasses
- Serve
Equipment
I often enjoy serving this yummy, healthy green beverage in wine glasses. Remember to drink it slowly, so that you can absorb and digest every ounce of green goodness.
Speaking of healthy goodness, Diane from The W.H.O.L.E. Gang is starting her 30 Day Food Revolution on April 26th. She has asked 30 different bloggers to join her in sharing how to shift from processed foods or unhealthy foods to the foods our bodies need and love. Check it out!

I do not have a juicer so this recipe will have to wait… but, as soon as I get one I will make this green lemonade right away :)
I love green smoothies so I am sure I will thoroughly enjoy this.

Hi there, just a little tip I picked up recently. You can blend it all up in a blender and enjoy the fiber, or blend in all up in a blender then strain it through a nut milk bag. :) Here’s to your health. Shelly

I made a version of this with a Meyer Lemon (peel on) and spinach. It’s so sweet and scrumptious, hard to believe it’s so healthy!

This sounds great! I drink green smoothies on a daily basis, but kale is somthing that is not so easy to find here.Last week, however, I found organic kale at the Farmers Market,so I will try your green lemonande;-)

how about a green smoothie with wild herbs like violet leaves, or chickweed?
Kale is delicious, but I prefer it cooked. Kale can be something that lowers thyroid function when eaten raw like other brassicas.
I like parsley , cilantro and other herbs blended with olive oil as a garnish, but most of my greens cooked…

Yeah, those goitrogens will getcha! This looks great, but I would also cook the kale. Just blanching it a little will help a lot with those effects. Every other ingredient would be fantastic raw, though! Yum!

I just made this but added sugar snap peas and a pink lady apple with the kale and some mandarin oranges my son did not eat in his lunch. I did not have a lemon but it was fantastic! Better then the chardonnay I was going to enjoy this evening :)

As a self-proclaimed “health nut” and Registered Dietitian-I look forward to all of your recipes! I even consider the sweets to be a nice treat to be eaten in moderation-with the added benefits of almonds. In fact, studies show that people who treat themselves, tend to maintain a healthier weight and attitude.
Thanks for all that you do!

Yum. This is very similar to one I make, except that I use limes instead of lemons and add ginger, too. I’ve been using swiss chard for it recently, since the swiss chard plot in my garden is going crazy. I put it all in the blender with water, rather than juice it, and add stevia to taste.
Rachel says
I use fresh squeezed grapefruit juice if I don’t have limes on hand. I don’t use lemons. Adding ginger sounds perfect.

This looks delicious! it is very similar to my favorite “green” juice, but I add ginger too for a bit of spiciness. When I get my juicer back out of storage I will definitely be trying your version too.
Andrea says
You’re so sweet to give credit to Natalia Rose, but this version is quite distinct, delicious, and all your own!

I love green drinks. A great way to get all the veggies in one hit.
As far as posting on healthy food goes, I think having treats such as the almond joy bark is part of eating healthy. You need to have a balance and the almond joy bark is probably far better for you than a Snikers bar.
