This gluten free Double Chocolate Orange Torte will make a nice treat for Passover, which is rapidly approaching! My family, however, needed no holiday or excuse to devour the entire cake on a Sunday afternoon. This treat is easy to make and even easier to eat. Go ahead, try some and see for yourself.
Double Chocolate Orange Torte
½ cup chocolate chunks
½ cup blanched almond flour
¼ cup cacao powder
½ teaspoon celtic sea salt
½ cup agave nectar or honey
½ cup grapeseed oil ... read more →

My husband loves this simple, moist gluten free Cherry Apricot Cake. I make sure to use organic dried fruit in this dessert since pesticides levels tend to be high in conventional cherries and apricots and more concentrated in dried fruits. I often purchase my organic dried fruit at the local health food store, Vitamin Cottage; for more “hard to find” ingredients such as organic dried cherries (sans added sugar) one of my favorite sources is an online company ... read more →

Sorry about all the comment confusion. Comments are now open!
It was wonderful to host November’s Go Ahead Honey, It’s Gluten Free blog carnival with the theme of grain free cakes. I really enjoyed seeing other people’s photographs of my recipes. And more than that, I’m very much looking forward to making some of the delicious dishes by all of you featured below. I have a lot of baking to do now that this is posted, getting ... read more →

As the weather is changing I’m leaning towards recipes that call for pumpkin, apples, cranberries and the like and am craving time in the kitchen to make lots of warm food for my family. Along those lines, this Pumpkin Cinnamon Cheesecake is a winner. This gluten free dessert doesn’t last long around the boys and their friends.
With so many healthy and nutritious ingredients, this pie style cheesecake could almost be part of the main course, though I prefer to save ... read more →

I chose to go with a messy “action” photo of this crumble to demonstrate just how much my husband liked it! He came home from work and devoured the section you see missing above. I was somewhat surprised since it was another one of my experiments making a purely fruit sweetened dessert.
While this crumble is not as easy to make as my usual desserts, it’s super healthy and also deliciously satisfying.

1 pint blueberries

The New York Times blog, Bitten, just did a feature on chocolate cupcakes, which made me realize that a recipe for gluten free chocolate cupcakes is conspicuously lacking from this site. Well, I am happy to say that is no longer the case.
In my quest for the perfect gluten free chocolate cupcake, I made these 5 times. Today. Luckily, my boys and their glutenoid friends happily scarfed the “failures.” Here, I share with you my success.

During the last month Gluten Free Orange Cake has received a lot of play. And it’s certainly not because this tasty dessert is on my site. Starbucks recently launched a classic Gluten Free Valencia Orange Cake to much fanfare from the gluten-free community.
A couple of weeks ago I received this fabulous comment from LeAnne on my original Orange Cake post:
“Elana – have you tried the new Starbucks Gluten Free Valencia Orange Cake? It’s a copycat of your recipe. in ... read more →

I’ve been on a quest this week for gluten-free, dairy-free healthy Twinkies and after several attempts (make that 7) I seem to have come up with a good approximation of this infamous Hostess treat.
Whenever the subject of Twinkies comes up in our house a certain Twinkie vandalism story is told (of which I was not a part!). My husband likes to talk about the time (in his college days) when he and a buddy were coming home from a night ... read more →

Here’s another flourless cake for those looking for an alternative to almond flour or in search of a nut-free recipe. My husband and older son loved this fruity chocolate cake. I was thinking that with a nice strawberry frosting this cake would make a delicious banana split type dessert.
This gluten-free, grain-free cake is quick and easy. You’ll just want to make sure that your bananas are quite ripe to ensure its sweetness. If you can do dairy, this cake would ... read more →

It’s amazing what you can do without any flour! I made this gluten free chocolate cake using beets. Being “Deceptively Delicious“ I fooled my husband. While my children are game to eat pretty much anything I make, my husband is known as the “picky” eater around here.
Because of his strong critiques and my perfectionist bent, I often find myself testing a new recipe four, five or more times. Though this one I nailed the second time, it was that ... read more →

We will be making this gluten free German Chocolate Cake (and many other dishes) in my next cooking class at the Culinary School of the Rockies, March 17th. If you want to sign up there is still some space left.
As we all know, there are many ways to make German Chocolate Cake. An entire chocolate cake can be frosted with a coconut pecan icing as I did a while back in this post. Alternatively, the sides of the cake can ... read more →

When I recently posted my Accidental Mocha Mousse recipe, Samantha requested this German Chocolate Cake so that she and her mother would not miss out on it during the holidays. I am more than pleased to add it to this blog, as German Chocolate Cake is a classic.
Although my boys are in a finicky stage lately, boycotting most of the things I make (even dessert!) they eagerly wolfed down this sweet, rich chocolaty cake.

This healthier Christmas Cake is alcohol free and packed full of dried fruit and nuts.
A while back, Lisa (and several other readers) asked me to come up with a gluten-free Christmas cake. Being Jewish, and never having sampled Christmas cake, I had no idea what it was.
Lisa was kind enough to send me this definition:
A festive cake for celebrating Christmas here in Australia. Commonly full of dried fruits (a variety) soaked in alcohol. Flour, brown sugar, eggs cinnamon, nutmeg. ... read more →

This moist festive dessert is a perfect healthy treat for your holiday celebrations.
Yum. Gluten Free and Dairy Free Orange Cake. There’s something special about oranges. Such a simple fruit yet, bursting with flavor and possibility, they remind me of winter, specifically Christmas.
A while back I told ~M, one of my favorite readers, that I would post my version of Claudia Roden’s Gateau a l’Orange. This moist festive gluten free orange cake makes an ideal dish for holiday celebrations.

This gluten free, “Honey” Cake is a great dessert for Rosh Hashanah or any special occasion.
One of my favorite readers, ~M, who keeps me on my toes with her fabulous questions, comments and requests, recently asked for a gluten-free “honey cake” recipe for the High Holidays. A few others did as well, so here it is!
You may notice that my “honey cake” actually has no honey in it. Feel free to experiment and amend the recipe if you miss ... read more →

My children have been stuck with me and my veggie creations for the past month; these final days of summer, they are not drawn into the kitchen so quickly. Sure, they eat the vegetable dishes I make, however they are not particularly excited by my recent culinary explorations.
Imagine their interest the other day then, at the very end of their summer vacation, when I offered to bake cake with them (and the four friends they had over). They ... read more →

I am happy to introduce gluten free vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting and continue on my coconut flour recipe roll. I have been making (and testing) this dessert for close to two years and it is one of my personal favorites. I think it might be a hit with you too based on reports from taste testing friends.
Passover really threw me for a loop. It wasn’t the guests we had visit for the holiday. It ... read more →

Ok, so in yesterday’s “reach out and touch someone” post I failed. In fact, I fell flat. On my face. Do you know how many comments were posted? One. Not much community in one post.
To cheer myself up, I can always read some Dooce. That woman makes me laugh out loud. Or I can listen to the Captain and Tenille’s Love Will Keep Us Together. Either way, I do not despair, Passover is near and ... read more →

A decadent dessert recipe that’s high protein, gluten free, dairy free and nut free.
Yes, I continue to roll out the coconut flour recipes. This time it’s gluten free Chocolate Cake. I am having a great time experimenting with this unique flour. I have been doing so for almost two years now and have created a small stockpile of recipes that work well with its light and fluffy texture.
