Hanukkah is only 2 days away! It starts on December 21st at sundown. The big question? What to serve for the holiday of lights and oil.
Here is a festive menu that I have put together for a delicious Hanukkah dinner, full of lovely winter vegetables in peak season. You don’t have to tell anyone it’s gluten-free, dairy-free and does not contain processed white sugar. I’ve served this to crowds before and no one had a clue. They just chowed. Enjoy […]

Thanksgiving is the holiday of plenty, bursting with gratitude, though often excess food as well. Sometimes on this earthy, festive occasion, we end up too full and feel less than great by the day’s end.
To avoid that phenomenon, this year my family will cut down on sweet carb-filled dishes and make several with green vegetables, so that we have bounty and selection, though don’t end up stuffed.

matzoh ball soup
chipotle orange chicken
A couple of notes:
I did not include a vegetable dish in the above list. Generally, I like to serve steamed broccoli or broiled asparagus with our Passover meal. I have linked to a […]

Valentine’s Day is nearly upon us. I don’t buy into the flowers and Hallmark card aspect of this holiday. Rather than the usual hoopla, my favorite taste tester (that would be my husband) and I don’t do much, if anything at all. Simply put, I try to appreciate and show my love for him day in and day out.
On another note, who on earth decided that consumers should show their love by purchasing useless items on some specific day? The […]

UPDATE: please visit my updated Thanksgiving Day recipes post for 2008.
Thanksgiving. I find it challenging to write the word without giving some sort of gratitude. Each year, before we partake in our Thanksgiving feast, we go around the table and take the time to say a few words of gratitude, stating our thanks for things such as the food at the table, good friends and the roof over our head.
Thanksgiving and autumn in general seem to be such a good […]
