When chilly weather arrives the boys ask for Paleo Apple Tart with Pecan Crust on a nightly basis.
Cold weather means apple pie (or some version thereof) in my house. Our favorite is this cinnamon-spiked apple tart encased in a pecan crust. Since my boys go gaga for anything involving baked apples, this gluten free apple tart with a high protein, grain free crust doesn’t last long around here.
I love that the boys (and their friends) gobble down a treat high […]

Here’s a healthy paleo tart crust made from pecans, egg and coconut flour –gluten free, of course!
This quick and easy gluten free tart crust holds together very well and has a wonderfully nutty flavor.
The first few times I made this high protein, paleo tart crust, I had it with apple filling. I think it would be even better with the pumpkin pie filling recipe in The Gluten-Free Almond Flour Cookbook. Feel free to experiment and fill this tart crust with […]

‘Tis time for all things pumpkin and squash, including velvety Paleo pumpkin bars.
Pumpkin season is my favorite time of year. When the days get shorter, the nights cool and crisp, I indulge in my fascination with those odd shaped, brightly colored vegetables known as winter squash.
Pumpkin is a type of winter squash, and I use a variety of winter squash in my pumpkin recipes. For these Paleo Pumpkin Bars I chose roasted acorn squash, though you could just as easily […]

Paleo Honey Cake made with high protein almond flour for your High Holiday celebrations.
Honey Cake, also known as Lebkuchen, is a traditional Jewish dessert eaten during Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year); my family sometimes serves it during Yom Kippur Break Fast as well since it is a warming, comforting food. Traditionally, we eat honey during the High Holidays as this ritual sets the tone for a sweet new year. It is common to dip apples in honey at the […]

Gluten free dairy free Mint Chip Truffles are full of healthy fats to keep your motor running.
These low-carb healthy Mint Chip Truffles are a fantastic Paleo snack. In fact, I love to eat them right after I work out (my workouts, which I do several times per week are long walks, very light weight lifting, Pilates and yoga). However, they’re also the perfect post workout snack for high-intensity athletes such as CrossFitters.
On top of that? They’re a great Paleo dessert […]

Easy Vanilla Fig Bars made with dried figs, shredded coconut and almonds –gluten free, Paleo, Primal, delicious.
I’ve been working on various power bar recipes lately as I need some easy to pack snacks for an upcoming adventure. My husband and I are planning on climbing a 14’er (that would be a 14,000 foot mountain) this summer and of course I want to make sure we have the proper nourishment. These bars will work well for the two of us given […]

Grain free cookies made with high protein almond flour, naturally sweetened with honey.
Primal. Paleo. Specific Carbohydrate. GAPS. Call it what you want. I began the grain-free diet in 2001. I have adhered to it religiously ever since. When I began, I followed the Specific Carbohydrate Diet; since then, although I’ve used various sweeteners and oils, I have not veered from grain-free. This is not a fad for me. It’s not even something that really has a name. When I started […]

Gluten free, grain free raspberry streusel bars, made with high protein almond flour, lightly sweetened with xylitol.
This recipe for vegan raspberry streusel bars is based on one by Brittany at Real Sustenance. Ever since she posted her delicious looking recipe last year during the holidays I’ve been wanting to make it.
I adjusted her recipe by removing the sweetener from the crust and by increasing the amount of high protein items in the streusel so the topping would be a bit […]

With only four ingredients, this simple gluten free dessert recipe will wow your Passover or Easter guests. These primal macaroons are made of coconut, egg whites, honey and salt, making them an optimal Paleo cookie recipe. They’ll be devoured within minutes!
Rather than shredded coconut, I used flaked coconut as I wanted to try something different, and I thought it would look pretty and brown nicely.

Dark chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate, all in one gluten free chocolate chip cookie.
I can assure you, this is not a Paleo cookie. It is not even a Primal cookie. It is a special occasion cookie –a wonderful treat to serve at a gluten free Super Bowl party. It also makes a great holiday cookie (think gluten free Valentine’s Day dessert). Lately, everyone who has been over to our house –gluten free or not –has been gorging themselves on […]
